@djjd62,
dj, those are all fabulous songs and humorous clips, buddy. Most of them are ribald allusions, but I suspect that you knew that. Razz

I watched and listened to the entire thing about the dog and the anise. Funny from beginning to end.

Here's another and we can call this Hugh Laurie Day on WA2K.

Wodehouse in 1904 (aged 23).

Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse, KBE (15 October 1881 " 14 February 1975) was a comic writer who enjoyed enormous popular success during a career of more than seventy years and continues to be widely read. Despite the political and social upheavals that occurred during his life, much of which was spent in France and the United States, Wodehouse's main canvas remained that of pre-war English upper-class society, reflecting his birth, education, and youthful writing career.

An acknowledged master of English prose, Wodehouse has been admired both by contemporaries such as Hilaire Belloc, Evelyn Waugh and Rudyard Kipling and by modern writers such as Douglas Adams, Salman Rushdie and Terry Pratchett. Sean O'Casey famously called him "English literature's performing flea", a description that Wodehouse used as the title of a collection of his letters to a friend, Bill Townend.

Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and of 250 lyrics for some 30 musical comedies. He worked with Cole Porter on the musical Anything Goes (1934) and frequently collaborated with Jerome Kern and Guy Bolton. He wrote the lyrics for the hit song "Bill" in Kern's Show Boat (1927), wrote the lyrics for the Gershwin - Romberg musical Rosalie (1928), and collaborated with Rudolf Friml on a musical version of The Three Musketeers (1928).

@djjd62,
Love the songs from Showboat, dj. Helen Morgan was good in that one, and thanks for the info. Ava Gardner sang that song as well.

I guess my all time favorite version of Old Man River from the same show is Paul Robeson, and this shall be my goodnight song, y'all.

Goodnight, everyone,

Good morning WA2k from a dry,frosty London.
The Who,well,the 2 remaining original members,have topped a new poll asking fans who they want to see at next year's Super Bowl halftime show.

Other acts Rolling Stone readers wanted to perform at the American football event included Pearl Jam, Guns N' Roses and AC/DC.

Bruce Springsteen, who did a 12-minute set at this year's game, suggested that Coldplay are hired to play at Superbowl XLIV, which takes place at the Dolphin Stadium in Miami. However, the British band only came 15th in the new vote.

Previous acts to perform halftime shows include The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Prince and Aerosmith.

The top ten in full:

1. The Who
2. Pearl Jam
3. Guns n’ Roses
4. Van Halen
5. Dave Matthews Band
6. Foo Fighters
7. Red Hot Chili Peppers
8. AC/DC
9. Neil Young
10. Led Zeppelin

One more from Donovan.
Good morning. We lost electric last night, but the storm has moved on. We actually just caught a glancing blow. It was a welcome break from the drought we have been in.

Good morning WA2K.

Enjoyed listening to the original Showboat music the station aired last night.
Thought you might find it interesting that Ava Gardner's voice was dubbed by Annette Warren in the remake. And although you may not care for Kathryn Grayson's voice, Letty, I thought she was very good, as Magnolia, in the remake of Showboat. Smile

Here are some more February 11 birthdays:

;1847 - Thomas Alva Edison, American inventor (d. 1931); 1909 - Joseph L. Mankiewicz, American director, (Over six years he made 11 films for Fox, reaching a peak in 1949 and 1950 when he won consecutive Academy Awards for Screenplay and Direction for A Letter to Three Wives and All About Eve (loved that movie)' Cleopatra (hated that movie)consumed three years of Mankiewicz's life and ended up both derailing his career and causing severe financial losses for the studio, Twentieth Century-Fox. Mankiewicz made more films, however, garnering an Oscar nomination for Best Direction in 1972 for Sleuth starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine, his final production; (d. 1993) ; 1917 - Sidney Sheldon, American author (d. 2007) ; 1919 - Eva Gabor, Hungarian-born actress (d. 1995) ; 1926 - Leslie Nielsen, Canadian actor ; 1934 - Tina Louise, American actress ; 1936 - Burt Reynolds, American actor ; 1941 - Sergio Mendes, Brazilian musician ; 1962 - Sheryl Crow, American musician ; 1964 - Sarah Palin, American politician ; 1969 - Jennifer Aniston, American actress ; and 1979 - Brandy, American singer and actress

Eva Gabor, Leslie Nielsen, Burt Reynolds and Jennifer Aniston
I hope I'm not looking at the wrong calendar. It seems like I just posted these. Laughing

@Raggedyaggie,
Hey, folks, there's our puppy with a famous face quartet and info that always sends me to the archives. I just know, PA, that I loved the music from Showboat whether the original or the remake. Now I'm going to have to search which Cleopatra ruined Mankiewizc's Life. No doubt about it, our Raggedy inspires me and others on our cyber radio. Thanks once again for the inspiration.

Well, y'all, I don't care what Lonnie Anderson said, I loves Burt Reynolds.

Here's Queen doing a tribute to the man.

As a boy, when I would think of Tom Edison, I would recall this movie about his boyhood.

@edgarblythe,
edqar, I love that old movie clip with Mickey. I just got through looking at Thomas Edison's early life. That is rather realistic, Texas.

Had to find this, y'all.

http://abel.hive.no/trumpet/arban/edison/Edison_Phonograph_250.jpg

"thank you Thomas Edison for giving us the best years of our life". Guess who sang that one.

Thanks for the Brandy song as well. Great song, and I remember it.

How about one by Sergio Mendes(mendez) doing a Beatles song.

@Izzie,
Izzie, you dear thing. What great pictures you took from your hospital room. Love those snuggies you're wearing, hun. I had to borrow some of those from my daughter when I was in the Virginia snow.

Well, my son asked me not to sing to him, so that must mean he's improving. Razz

Before you try to don those boots for walking, how about something more comfortable. Just tell people to stay off them.

For our Izzie, folks.

I am glad that those who were infirm are healing.

Hope our animals will return soon and that all is well everywhere.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I hope our Raggedy hears this one, y'all.

(incidentally, "thank you Thomas Edison" was a part of the Statler Brothers song)
