@Izzie,
Good morning, Izzie. Thanks for your kind thoughts. I think we all must experience pain before we can feel it in others.

Like this one by the Spanish lady, y'all.

Eveyone gone again? Ah, well. Just found out the latest from the world of entertainment, folks.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Actors Tommy Lee Jones and Barry Corbin are being inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, officials announced Wednesday.
Jones, an eight-generation Texan well-known for his acting and directing talent, also is an accomplished rancher and polo player, hall of fame officials said.
Jones, 62, whose films include “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” “JFK,” “Batman Forever” and “Men in Black,” won the Academy Award for best supporting actor in “The Fugitive.” His other awards include an Emmy and Golden Globe.

Hmmm. maybe we could induct dys.

Time for me to say goodnight, but first an announcement from the home front.

My daughter informs me that Dave is doing much better. His male nurse had called her and said they were hanging out and having fun talking, etc.

My goodnight song is proper and a tribute to Gene Krupa.

Come on, everybody; Sing Sing Sing.

as always,

@Raggedyaggie,
Hey, puppy. Glad you're here. (not Florida) Our radio station needs a face or two to keep it going. Thanks for the trio, PA. Certainly know about Dian Fossey and the mountain gorillas. (you and I both know Kate Moss, right?)

Had to check out Katy Jurado but I think we also know Ethel Merman and Ronnie Milsap. (smoky Mountain Rain, etc)

Interesting item in today's news, y'all.

THE BIG SHOW

• On Sunday, tradition will be upheld with a free star-studded concert on the National Mall, starting at 2:30 p.m. Among the many performers: Bruce Springsteen, U2, Beyonce, Usher, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, John Mellencamp, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Herbie Hancock, Josh Groban, John Legend and James Taylor. Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III and Queen Latifah will read. Obama will stop by and HBO will broadcast "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial."

Hope edgar is all right. He seems a little down to me. Maybe it's just his style.

First, Herbie Hancock; then Herbie Mann.(jazz flautist)

Good afternoon. I am currently listening to Judy Collins. A beautiful song, Who Knows Where the Time Goes?

There is a new thread celebrating the work of George Jones. I think he is a wonderful writer/singer. My one criticism, most of the songs are writtten in sadness.

@edgarblythe,
Glad that you are back, edgar. I really like Judy Collins, and I think it's because my daughter and niece sang, "Both Sides Now." That does make a difference in our tastes. I saw what Bella wrote about the poetry of George's music, and I feel the same way about Hank Williams. Don't have to like their voices to appreciate their talent.

As you know, when my dad was dying, I sang "Don't Let the Deal Go down" He sang along with me.

Here's a guy that gets the same melody, but the wrong words to the song that I recall.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HH4RKqWvZc&feature=related

Here are the lyrics ala my dad.

Where did you get those high top shoes,
Where did you get that coat so fine.

I got my shoes from a railroad man,
And my dress from a driver in the mine.

Chorus.

Don't let your deal go down honey babe,
Don't let your deal go down.
Don't let your deal go down lawd, lawd
Til your last gold dollar is gone

We tend to appreciate the music that we are raised with, Texas.

Jazz, of course, was mostly learned from Bud.

I have an album titled Bull Durham Sacks and Railroad Tracks, by Ramblin' Jack Elliot. He does Don't let the Deal Go Down on that. Seems pretty close to the words you posted.

Here is a bit about Boy George, a dude with a great voice, but a terrible personal life.
Boy George gets 15-month term for 'gratuitous violence'"Singer Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in jail today after being convicted of falsely imprisoning a male escort by handcuffing him to a wall in a London apartment

More than one song, I just discovered.

Actor Joaquin Phoenix turns rapper

Actor Joaquin Phoenix is set to embark on a music career, and his debut album is apparently to be produced by P. Diddy.

Phoenix received acclaim for his portrayal of country singer Johnny Cash in the 2005 move ‘Walk The Line’, but his new music direction is reportedly as a rapper.

The Hollywood Reporter says that his pal Casey Affleck will document the budding rapper’s career with a feature length movie, and will shoot an upcoming show by Phoenix in Las Vegas, NV.

Joaquins’ late brother River also had an interest in music, playing in the rock band Aleka’s Attic up to his death in 1993.

@edgarblythe,
I saw that about Boy George, edgar. Weird behavior, buddy. Didn't he get busted for drugs at one time?

Loved your Ramblin Jack song. Everyone was in that video, and I did pick up the melody to Don't Let the Deal go Down, among others.

Here's a rather long one by Boy George. The only one that I have heard by him, Texas, is Karma Chamelon(sp) Somehow, YouTube wouldn't allow the original because of copywright violation.

@edgarblythe,
Great song, by Boy George, edgar, and I'm sorry that I missed your bit about Joaquin Phoenix. Somewhat of a surprise, to learn he getting into rap music, however.

You know, Morgan Freeman is one great actor. Wish he hadn't had to do that bit with the prom. Some things never change, and I think we're seeing reactions on both sides to our president elect.

Okay, here's the ragtime side of my family, y'all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stDQblgZ5zc

and, the lyrics to same.

Way down on the levy in old Alabamy
There's Daddy and Mammy
There's Ephraim and Sammy
On a moonlight night you can find them all
While they are waiting,
The banjos are syncopating

What's that they're saying?
What's that they're saying?
While they keep playing
A - humming and swaying
It's the good ship Robert E. Lee
that's come to carry the cotton away!

Watch them shuffling along,
See them shuffling along!
Go take your best gal, real pal
Go down to the levy, I said to the levy,
and join that shuffling throng
Hear that music and song!
It's simply great, mate, waiting on the levy
Waiting for the Robert E. Lee!

The whistles are blowing, the smokestacks are showing
the ropes they are throwing, excuse me I'm going
to the place where all is harmonious
even the preacher, he is the dancing teacher!

Have you been down there?
Were you around there?
If you ever go there you'll always be found there,
why, dog-gone, here comes my baby
on the good old Robert E. Lee!

Watch them shuffling along,
See them shuffling along
Go take your best gal, real pal
Go down to the levy, I said to the levy,
And join that shuffling throng
Hear that music and song!
It's simply great, mate, waiting on the levy
Waiting for the Robert E. Lee!
