This was voted the greatest Brazilian song; no argument from me. The composer's on piano, if i'm not mistaken. Cool

edgar, thank you for the acknowledgement, Texas.

Welcome back, M.D. That is a lovely song, and the sub titles helped. Tom Jobim? My goodness, that English name just does not fit. Love the man, and the lady was having some fun with the Waters of March, methinks.

Here's another lovely lady with a tribute to one of my favorite guys of all times.

@urs53,
Dear Urs, Welcome back, and that video was beautiful. I loved the lyrics, gal, because they remind us of the true spirit of Christmas by explaining what it is NOT. Did I hear Midnight Sleighride in the background?

I love this one, folks, as it is a tribute to different cultures.

@Letty,
Very nice, Letty! Here is one of my favourite Christmas songs - very un-German! :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUo6PGhhaI0

@urs53,
Love it, Urs. That must be about the Caribbean. I recall when I was a child that I heard about people going in swimming on Christmas Day in Florida, and that captured my imagination. Jimmy Buffet has done some great songs, and that one is delightful. Thanks.

Glad the shuttle has safely landed in California. The crosswinds at the Cape were too dangerous.

Well, all, how about two song to laugh at.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks, edgar. We need a sound engineer as part of our team. No matter, however, dear Urs has gone to bed and will make our hearts glad tomorrow.

This song is interesting, y'all. I like it, and Julie Andrews sounds wonderful.

Hope this works, folks.

@edgarblythe,
I, too ,was amazed that the song came from the pen of Kurt Weill. Here's a bit of info about the man.

Apart from "Mack the Knife" and "Pirate Jenny" from the Threepenny Opera, his most famous songs include "Alabama Song" (from Mahagonny), "Surabaya Johnny" (from Happy End), "Speak Low" (from One Touch of Venus), "Lost in the Stars" (from the musical of that name), "My Ship" (from Lady in the Dark), and "September Song" (from Knickerbocker Holiday).
Weill suffered a heart attack shortly after his fiftieth birthday and died on 1950-04-03 in New York City . He was buried in Mount Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw, New York. The text and music on his gravestone comes from the song 'A Bird of Passage' from Lost in the Stars:
This is the life of men on earth:
Out of darkness we come at birth
Into a lamplit room, and then -
Go forward into dark again.

And the rest of the story.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I can't think of a better way to end the day than with Peggy Lee doing a song from Lost in the Stars.

I love the way that she wanders off from the man who is involved in a rant.

Goodnight all,

From Letty with love

I have a record of Lena Horne singing Lost n the Stars. Never could find it on youtube. Peggy Lee was always one of my top favorite artists, from early childhood.

My song was not available? Hmmm...

I'll sing it then for you: Six o'clock already, I was just in the middle of a dream. I was kissing Valentino by a crystal clear Italien stream..... just another manic Monday, wish it was Sunday, that's my fun day....

No manic Monday for me today! I am taking the day off :-)

Good morning, WA2K radio.

Hey, Rocky. U2? Ah, it's too early to fall, but thanks for that song.

edgar, I had no idea that Lena Horne also did "Lost in the Stars". Thanks for the reminder, Texas.

Urs, it's a little early for me to do the tango, but not for you, so here's Rudy (as done by Tony) and the blue tango.

Good morning WA2K.

Enjoying the comments on "Lost in the Stars". I have the original cast album of the Broadway musical. ("The Bird of Passage" is beautiful. ) The musical is based upon Alan Paton's "Cry the Beloved Country" (South Africa) which has been filmed at least twice, the latest version starring Richard Harris and Jame Earl Jones. The words from the song, The Bird of Passage" are taken directly from the book. The musical version - Lost in the Stars- was made into a film in 1974 and starred Brock Peters, Melba Moore, Raymond St. Jacques and Clifton Davis. I'd like to see that one again.

And now the December 1 birthdays:

1761 - Marie Tussaud, French creator of wax sculptures (Madame Tussauds) (d. 1850) ;1886 - Rex Stout, American author (d. 1975) ; 1913 - Mary Martin, American actor and singer (d. 1990) ; 1932 - Matt Monro, English singer (d. 1985) ;1933 - Lou Rawls, American singer (d. 2006) ;1935 - Woody Allen, American film director, actor, and comedian ;1940 - Richard Pryor, American actor, comedian (d. 2005) ;1945 - Bette Midler, American actress and singer ;1946 - Gilbert O'Sullivan, Irish singer ;1958 - Charlene Tilton, American actress ; and best of all - Raggedyaggie's daughter
Very Happy

Mary Martin (she was in the first live theater I saw, Annie Get Your Gun, and I was awe-stricken); Matt Monro; Lou Rawls, Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, and Bette Midler

@Raggedyaggie,
Good morning to you, Miss Blue. Fabulous sextet of notables, PA, and Alone Again Naturally was written for me, but no tears. Thanks for the additional info about the "stars". I think I read Cry the Beloved Country, but not sure. Know all the celebs, incidentally.

Happy Birthday to puppy II.

As most of our listeners know, I adore Matt Monroe. (speaking in couplets today)

Here is one by him that is outstanding, folks.
