@Raggedyaggie,
Ah, Raggedy, La Paloma and La halcon. (the dove and the hawk) Loved that song, incidentally, PA. Wish we could lay down our sword and shield.

Well, folks, I get my mind set on something, and I've been doing a bit of research into Catalonia. We'll dedicate this one to fbaezer. It's a combination of jazz and chant.

@Letty,
Letty, have you noticed THIS? I can't seem to get other folks to answer me if this has been a problem for them, too.

Thanks.

@Reyn,
Reyn, dear, I checked out your thread and I hate to tell you, but I am a dumb monkey when it comes to such things. This one doesn't seem to be a problem, however:

No stretching vertically.

@Letty,
Horizontal stretching (from left to right). The site pages have been made wider, which is a pain if one's screen resolution is 800 x 600. Most sites still use this setting. I guess they wanted to change it.

@Reyn,
Oops, That right, Reyn. Sorry, but I told you that I was a dummy, honey. Awhile back, I had trouble with the horizonal part of the screen. Wonder if the mods can help you with your problem? Hope so, Canada.

Well, folks, back to the spooky. edgar reminded me of this guy, and believe it or not, this song has great changes of a jazz nature. I know, cause I just played it on the piano.

The current national situation harkens many of us to earlier times. Tonight, for me, it's The Andrews Sisters.

@edgarblythe,
Great songs by The Andrew Sisters, edgar. Let's just hope it isn't Brother Can You Spare a Dime time. Rolling Eyes

Outside my wee studio I was hearing, thunder, and lightning, and hail, oh my.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I want to do a funny parody first, then a serious song by a great singer of the WWII era.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Ah, a WWII song. Thanks, Texas. I guess a lot of those "go get'em" songs were effective propaganda.

Today is Thelonious Monk's birthday, so let's hear a great one by him, folks.

Good morning, Raggedy and Ales.

Hey, PA. Thanks for the quintet, gal, as it always makes it easier to locate info with your famous faces.

Alex, welcome back, and The Monster Mash is great. Used to think that Boris Karloff did that himself. (that, too, was in my dummy days)

What a surprise to find that R.L. Stevenson did "The Boby Snatcher".

How about an aria by Joe Green(Verdi). Couldn't find Enrico Caruso's version, so we'll have to rely on Mario, I guess. This was Verdi's only opera that was set in Egypt, methinks.

Hard to believe so many artists I have listened to most of my life are gone.

@edgarblythe,
It seems that this is mood music night, edgar. Thanks for that lovely song by Judy Collins. Had no idea that Leonard Cohen had done it originally. Strange that he should talk about Jesus having been a sailor.

I never hear Roy that I don't think of Pretty Woman, Texas. I guess tonight he was in a blue mood.

Speaking of mood music, here is one by Ben Vereen. Did not know that he did Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umAfcDxJP1A&feature=related

and, folks, a goodnight song by Bobby Darin. I understand what you mean by vanishing artists; however, this one is a bit more upbeat.

Always thought that the Letterman did it originally.

Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker is about to bring another jazz legend's life story to the big screen.

Whitaker, who portrayed Charlie Parker for director Clint Eastwood in "Bird," will star in and direct a film on jazz great Louis Armstrong.

According to Variety, Whitaker will direct and star in "What a Wonderful World." The trade magazine said that the film will begin shooting in the summer in Louisiana

Thanks, Raggedy, for the quartet of famous faces and the info on the others.

edgar, my dad loved FDR, and I agree with you about Eleanor. She was a great woman who really cared about the human condition.

"Up all night I could not sleep" so I am here in our wee studio rather late today.

Here's one by Jerry Lee and Dottie. (love the "thang" thing)
