Here's Reyn's latest offering:

Multi-millionaire dog receives death threats

A dog left £6million by her late owner has been moved to a safe house after receiving death threats.

http://www.ananova.com/images/web/1085244.jpg

Trouble, a small white Maltese, inherited her fortune from property and hotel billionaire Leona Helmsley.

The dog came out significantly better in its owner's will than members of the Helmsley family - two of her grandchildren received nothing.

But the so-called Queen of Mean's multi-million dollar trust fund for Trouble may have backfired.

The New York Post reports that Trouble's new guardians have received around two dozen death threats directed at the bitch.

Two months ago, the dog, travelling under an assumed name, was flown in a private plane from her Connecticut home to another Helmsley estate in the Sarasota area of Florida.

John Codey, in charge of Trouble's trust fund, estimated it would cost more than £150,000 a year to look after the dog, including the cost of a rotating security team, medical care and grooming.

He told CBS television: "We received any number of threats to kidnap the dog, so that was a major problem for us after Leona passed away.

"We've had problems keeping her identity confidential and we had to change her name even to take her on the aircraft. We called her Bauble instead of Trouble."

The dog used to live in a luxury 46th-floor flat on top of Helmsley Park Lane Hotel, in New York, eating food prepared by the hotel chefs.

@Reyn,
Good morning WA2K, edgar, and Reyn.

For some reason, The Unicorn in the Garden wouldn't work, but we all know that a unicorn is a mythical beast. I know that one Texas, and love it and Thurber.

Had never heard The Box, but it is fabulous. Thurber is being quite serious with that one, and it sounds as though he had me in mind when he wrote it.

My World and Welcome to It. Love his carnival of animals. Need to check that one out, folks.

Reyn, I really love the unusual items that you come up with. Will you look at that wee animal? Poor thing to discover man's greed in such a terrible way.

Looks as though the dog doesn't like Leona any more than others did.

Here's an unusual morning song; it has cryptic implications, y'all. Somehow, the firest thing that came to my mind was The Beatitudes.

@Letty,
Good morning, all.

A brand new day means another chance to start over

Although this song tells us that starting over can be tough, it optimistically adds that we're gonna make it

@firefly,
Thanks, firefly. Perhaps you are right, and your songs do reflect it.

Well, folks, it seems that today is Ricardo Antonio Chavira's birthday. Never watched Desperate Housewives, but I like this song.

Here is Linda Ronstadt appearing with Bobby Darin. The song is Long Long Time. Mighty fine. Linda goes through many changes in her career. I like this one very much.

@edgarblythe,
I like that one as well, edgar. Yes, she has gone through many changes, Texas, but she can still sing. Didn't know that she played guitar, however.

Well, folks, this is for our Dutchy and those who are out on the road this Labor Day.

Most people seem to be aware of the Browns' recordings of The Three Bells and The Old Lamplighter. But, here is something else by them.

@theollady,
Theo, welcome back. I was feeling a bit down because of the rating system, but you just gave me a smile.

edgar, never heard that one by The Browns, but thanks, Texas.

This is the first day of September and I found this unusual version, folks. Love it!

@Letty,
Hi Letty,

Maybe most of these younger folk just don't appreciate radio.
But hey, you have the BEST of the Best right here posting in your topic
regularly.
The other 'thumbs' will just hitch a ride to somewheres else

@theollady,
Loved firefly's The Nearness of You. The kids, Bud and I sang that in four part harmony. Hoagy knew what he was doing and I think he collaborated with Johnny Mercer on many songs.

Theo, I could play hitching a ride, but will wait until later. Razz

Here's K.D. Lang doing one of my favorites from Johnny.

Talking to myself again, folks, and that's because I'm tired. Perhaps if Michael Buble asked me to dance, I might fine some energy.

So, M.B. do my goodnight song for our listeners.

@Letty,
Sheldon Keller

LOS ANGELES (AP) " Sheldon Keller, a writer who collaborated with Neil Simon, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner on the 1950s sketch comedy show "Caesar's Hour" and wrote variety shows for Frank Sinatra, Sophia Loren and other stars, has died. He was 85.

Keller died Monday of complications from Alzheimer's disease, his son Casey said.

A son of Polish immigrants, Keller moved from Chicago to New York in the early 1950s to pursue a career in comedy. He found success in 1955 when he joined the renowned writing staff that worked on Sid Caesar's television show, a spinoff of the popular program "Your Show of Shows."

Keller was the inspiration for the character Milton in the Broadway play "Laughter on the 23rd Floor," based on Simon's time working on the shows, his son said.

He also wrote variety shows for such stars as Sinatra, Loren, Dick Van Dyke, Danny Kaye and Dinah Shore. He won an Emmy for a show he wrote for Carol Channing.

Keller also had a successful career as a composer and songwriter and performed in a jazz band with actors George Segal and Conrad Janis.
