@edgarblythe,
"flipped the bird to his rivals"? Shocked and they allowed children to watch those cartoons. Love it, edgar.

Well, folks, how about some songs from the wood.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, That is the most mesmerizing song. I recall now seeing the movie, The Mission, but had to check out the archives to undertand that it was based on a true historical account. All that I can recall is the priest going over the waterfall after being crucified.

I did find this, folks.

The Mission is not a perfect film, but it is a rich, challenging one that explores the spiritual and the temporal, and the relationship between them, in a thought-provoking way. It contains moving images of despair, penance, and redemption that are among the most evocative ever filmed. It offers a positive depiction of Catholic missionaries as selfless champions and defenders of indigenous peoples and their ways of life rather than as oppressors or imperialists. It begins and ends in martyrdom " in bearing witness, signed in blood. It deserves attentive watching and thoughtful reflection.

Thank you, Texas. It doesn't matter to me about the history. The song stands on its own

@firefly,
Goodnight, dear firefly. Loved the theme from Mission Impossible and the duet from Carley and Harry.

Before I say goodnight, I want to salute soccer George for his great exploration into the rating system and to Francis for filling me in on Peggy Lee and Sentimental Journey. Sorry that I couldn't find it.

Also to Rocky and his wonderful songs and contributions, thereof and to JPB for her beautiful classical music.

Today is my son's birthday, and he is in the hospital in Carolina, so this one is for him:

@JPB,
ah, JPB, thank you for the serenity and the birthday song. I'm certain that my oldest sister will appreciate it as today is her birthday. She is recovering from her surgery and loved the African violets that I sent to her.

As for my son, the fact that he is in the RIGHT hospital is a good thing. Perhaps now his specialist can diagnose his problem. No one has at this point.

Woke up this morning thinking of hurricanes, and the worst ever was the one in Galveston, Texas.

How about this one by Glen Campbell, y'all. People disagree about the war that Jimmy Webb was referring to, but let's just say that it's about a soldier who wants to come home. We'll dedicate this one to our seed/Gene.

@edgarblythe,
Thanks, edgar, for Imus and Tony and the banner across the bottom. I suppose that all politicians want us to believe that "everything's coming up roses".

Here's a surprise, y'all. How would you like to get lost here?

Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. In the book, "Shangri-La" is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia"a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. The story of Shangri-La is based on the concept of Shambhala, a mystical city in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

@Letty,
I have to smile. Looks as though I'm talking to myself again.

Here's a tribute to Dimitri Tiomkin. I was searching for the songs from the original Shangri-La and made a discovery. He did the entire score. What a fabulous composer, folks.

edgar, I missed your Linda by Buddy Clark. Had forgotten that song, Texas. Checked him out because my older sister loved him simply because she was dating someone named Buddy. He was killed in an airplane crash as well.

@Letty,
A person I know very well was named Linda, because of that song, letty. But for that, I probably would never have heard it.
If I am not mistaken, Dimitri even wrote High Noon.

I suppose we all remember the Wolfman, the DJ. The Guess Who have a tribute, Clap For the Wolfman. Makes me think of Cover of the Rolling Stone, by Dr Hook.

@edgarblythe,
Strange, edgar, I would never have known about Dimitri t'were it not for Lost Horizon.

I recall Wolfman Jack. I'll have to tell you a story about that sometimes.

Well, it's time for me to say goodnight, and I discovered another remarkable tenor to do one of my favorite Rhomberg's. (wonder where the puppy went?)

We have a flood warning here, and the heavens are storming, so this will be a good time to close, all.
