@Letty,
I didn't see the movie, but I like the way he did the song.

@edgarblythe,
edgar, I don't know Vernon Duke, but that one sounded like something my country cousins would sing. Thanks, Texas.

Finally, I located a yodel from the Swiss Alps. I don't know why, folks, but it's funny to me. I think it's meant to be.

It's nice to have some snacks with our music. Smile

This song was a big hit for this oddly named British group. They had a good sound.

@firefly,
I just read that Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners has passed away.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T7OaDDR7i8&feature=related

Let's also remember him with this song, one of The Dubliners biggest hits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cll_uus86dA

Earlier this year, a group of singers and musicians came together to record The Ballad of Ronnie Drew, as a tribute to him. All proceeds from release of the single went to The Irish Cancer Society.

@firefly,
Very Happy Funny, dj. Never heard of yodels, however.

firefly, Thanks for the tribute to Ronnie Drew. I love Irish music and all of those were great. RIP, Irish.

Here are a couple of things that I have thought about lately, y'all.

First, The Dust Bowl and John Steinbeck's great American novel, The Grapes of Wrath.

Woody Guthrie says it in song.

@Letty,
Well, it's time to say goodnight, folks, and I have located something that I have tried to find for a long time, and that is this lovely song from the movie, French Kiss. Kevin Klien was wonderful in that flic, and Timothy Hutton also had a role.

The perfect goodnight song, too. Marie almost loses the meter, but manages to get it right just when we think she has lost it.

Let's hope that tropical storm Fay stays that way.

Goodnight til sunbeams find us.

@Letty,
I will say good night with this final tribute to The Dubliners because the audience's participation, and their obvious love for this group, and their music, is so wonderful--it's part of the joy of music that brings us together.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9GXCSNkcqU&feature=related

And, for Ronnie Drew

Peace to all.

@firefly,
Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

firefly, your final tribute to The Dubliners was NOT final. They are infinite, and thanks. I really enjoyed Cleo Laine and the lovely tour of distant places as well.

Here is someone who is new to me, y'all, and she is from Finland and it is her birthday. What do you think, as I am always interested in what some people enjoy and others don't.

Good morning WA2K.

Letty: I thought the song from the lady from Finland was lovely. Smile

@Raggedyaggie,
Good morning, Raggedy. Thanks, puppy, for your input. I have mixed feelings about Tarja. This may sound odd, but her beauty detracted from her voice. I noted that many of the responses to the video mentioned beauty first. Thanks again for the quintet of the celebs.

A tribute to Robert De Niro, folks, and one of my favorites was his role as Al Capone in the Untouchables. It was odd to watch him cry as Enrico Caruso sang the aria from Pagliacci juxtaposed with his henchmen murdering his rivals. Another was The Deerhunter. At the end when he could not shoot the deer, I shed a few tears myself.

@Letty,
Can't say I liked that Finnish singer, Letty. Not my cup of tea at all.

Today is also Sean Penn's birthday. In Sweet and Lowdown he played the "world's second best guitar player". The actual playing was done by guitarist Howard Alden, who also coached Penn for the part.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E6RPkM8Hg4&feature=related

And here's Mr Alden in a recent concert of his own. He is the one with the dark hair.

@firefly,
De Niro was so incredible in Raging Bull. I love the opening sequence to that movie, and the music--the Intermezzo from the opera, Cavalleria Rusticana--sets such a perfect mood.

@firefly,
firefly, I agree to some degree about Miss Finland, and thanks for your input.

Didn't see Raging Bull, but I searched out the plot summary, and it makes a lot of sense to me why winning at one thing, makes a loser at another.

I knew both those songs played by Sean, and here are the lyrics to both:

Speak to me of love
And say what I'm longing to hear
Tender words of love
Repeat them again
I implore you speak to me of love
Whisper these words to me, dear
I adore you,
I want to hear, to hear those words that are so dear,
I want to hear you say I love you
By all the little stars above you
Your voice is like a fun caress
It thrills me till I must confess
I long to hear the voice that brings me
Such thrilling love and happiness
Parle moi d'amour
Redites moi ces mots suprímes
Je vous aime

Limehouse Blues
Oh, Limehouse blues
I've the real Limehouse blues
Can't seem to shake off
Those real China blues
Rings on your fingers
And tears for your crown
That is the story
Of old Chinatown

Rings on your fingers
And tears for your crown
That is the story
Of old

We must not forget Mae West, folks, so here is her tribute.

@Letty,
Gorgeous Maureen O'Hara, with her flaming red hair, was just perfect for technicolor movies. I never knew that she sang. It's a pity they didn't use her talents in some musical films.

@firefly,
Wow! firefly. I had no idea that Maureen sang. That was great.

When I was a kid I read Spencer's Mountain by Earl Hamner and was intrigued because they lived in Schuler(pronounced "skyler"), Virginia and most of my Virginia family knew them. The movie starred Maureen O'Hara as this lady.

http://www.the-waltons.com/graphics/doris-h.jpg

Almost all of us knew the extended family as well.

Don't know where John of Virginia is hiding, but he will certainly know about this.

Why not dedicate this one to the folks in Schuyler, Virginia.

Letty, have you seen clogging or clog dancing? If you look carefully, I think you can glimpse Pete Seeger playing the banjo.

@firefly,
firefly, loved the Dolly Parton song. I'll have to send it to my older sister who in turn can send it to whoever is left of the Hamners. (I think Earl lives in California now.)

As for the Clog dancing, I know how to do that, gal, but here's the same type of dance and it's called flatfooting.

@Letty,
Hee, hee. I love it when the headline says "Reply to Letty". That must mean that I'm talking to myself again. No matter, y'all, it's been a good day from morning til night.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I'm happy to know that msolga is back as is the wolf lady. I also smell smoked fish being cooked in Kansas, and know that Monday morning M.D. and J.M will be together again on the big island.

Love this goodnight song, folks, because it means that everyone is together again.
