And now for a really sad story. In the tradition of The Leader of the Pack, I give you The Leader of the Laundrymat.

Hey, edgar. Loved the Dylan song, and the Laundrymat thing was funny.

Thanks, I needed that as well (surefire dialogue)

Speaking of Routes, folks, how about this one.

Well, all, it's time for me to say goodnight, and I chose a rather strange song by George Harrison.

First, however, A little info that I didn't know.

In 1988, George Harrison was instrumental in forming the Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, and Tom Petty when they gathered in Dylan's garage to quickly record an additional track for a projected Harrison European single release. The record company realised the track ("Handle With Care") was too good for its original purpose as a B-side and asked for a full, separate album. This had to be completed within two weeks, as Dylan was scheduled to start a tour. The album was released in October 1988 and recorded under pseudonyms as half-brothers (supposed sons of Charles Truscott Wilbury, Sr.), Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1.

and now, the song.

Goodnight, my friends

After Roy Orbison's death, Del Shannon was asked to become the new Wilbury. Instead, Shannon committed suicide. Then, George passed away.
George Harrison aka Nelson/Spike
Tom Petty aka Charlie T. Jnr./Muddy
Roy Orbison aka Lefty
Bob Dylan aka Lucky/Boo
Jeff Lynne aka Otis/Clayton

Technically, the group still exists, but it is unlikely they will record anything else.

Here is Judy Collins on Pete Seger's Rainbow Quest. Judy's another of my loves.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

edgar, thanks for the info about the new Wilbury. You do keep us apprised of interesting backgrounds, Texas. Just checked out Del Shannon and remember "Runaway". How very sad.

Also enjoyed Judy Collins' "rainbow quest".

Speaking of Judy, here is the very first song that I heard by Leonard. Interesting that a Jewish guy should sing about Jesus as a sailor.

When Cohen first peddled his songs, he couldn't get anybody interested, until Judy Collins took notice of him. She recorded Suzanne, That's No Way to Say Good-Bye and Priests. She began bringing him onstage at her own concerts.

Morning, all. In a blatant case of thievery, I lifted this link off the thread called Youtube Treasures. The first time I heard Bobby Darin do Hank Williams (Whose singing I have always liked, letty).

Amazing, edgar. That young man did so many great songs prior to his death at 38.

Love this one, folks.

And a good day to you, PA. Strange, I couldn't access A Star is Born because it said that the video was removed due to terms violation.

Well, folks, I have two in one here so maybe all is not lost.

Terms of Endearment(one of my favorite Shirley MacLaine movies) and Take a Look at me Now from the movie Against All Odds, and it's done by a Korean guy.

That is really weird, Letty. I saw the video before I posted it. Now, I can't access it either. I didn't violate it. Honest.

Paul Williams wrote the music and Barbra the words, I believe. Let's try this version. I liked the other one because Kris Kristoffersen was on it. Very Happy

I love Terms of Endearment, too.

Ah, Raggedy, that was lovely, and we all know that it is not your wont to violate anything.

This one is sad, folks, but uplifting at the same time

Breaking news.

"Senate votes to ban insurers from discriminating based on DNA"
By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer 40 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Senate has passed legislation that prohibits health insurance companies and employers from discriminating against people based on the results of genetic testing.

The 95-0 vote sends the bill back to the House for a final vote early next week. President Bush supports the legislation.

DNA testing can show some people to be at greater risk of cancer or other serious illnesses. The bill bars health insurance companies from using such information to set premiums or determine eligibility. Employers couldn't use that information for hiring and firing decisions.

Good afternoon, folks. I will be in and out, mostly out. I came home early to take a company sponsered test on the computer.

When I was a kid of twenty, I was steeped in the music of Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, and dozens of other 50s rockers. I went into the Navy boot camp in San Diego that year. Separated from my music, I went around mumbling and groaning the words to this Buddy Holly song (couldn't sing a lick). I got some odd looks, but I couldn't shake it off.

edgar, when I was twenty, I was married and had a baby that wouldn't sleep and whose mom only sang jazz and endless lullabys. Razz

Did sing this one when we had a gig, however. This gal is good, but I like it better without all the vocal frills that she uses.

Hear that Frank Apisa is returning to us, and I won't believe it until I see his tattoo.

Quote for the day and it is confusing because it is attributed to two different people.

"Sometimes I think we're alone. Sometimes I think we're not. In either case, the thought is staggering."
Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983)
American architect & engineer.

"Sometimes I think we're alone in the universe, and sometimes I think we're not. In either case, the idea is quite staggering."

"Lunch on Omaha"
"Lunch on Omaha" was written by Bink Noll in the late 50's. He served in the initial invasion, and wrote the poem years later when he returned to Omaha as a commercial writer.

I also have not been able to find a copy of the poem... But, if you ever found it, I would like to see it. I really enjoyed it when I read it as a youth. It really paints a humbling picture of that great and terrible day.

ddevil, Welcome to our cyber radio station, and to A2K. I have been searching for that poem for a long time. I recall the gist of it, and that would be NOT to clean the beach but to leave it just as it was in WWII as a grim reminder.

Tribute to the unknown soldier, folks.

Omaha Beach
I will be on Omaha Beach this weekend, and I was hoping to find a copy of the poem to read there. Ironically I will be there with a youth group who will be working to clean the beach. I just wanted to enlighten them a bit while there.

In the Desert
In the Desert

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter", he answered,
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."
