Good morning, WA2K audience.

Right, edgar. Not one of my favorites but it seemed to fit the occasion.

How about a little jazz to greet the day.

Adam Wade almost made it. Trouble is, he sounded too much like Johnny Mathis, and only had a couple of successful songs because of it. Personally, I don't mind it when two artists sound so similar. I can still enjoy their individual performances.

Good morning.

First time I ever heard Adam Wade, Edgar. I like his voice.

Today Johnny Sheffield is 77, but to me, he'll always be BOY. Very Happy

and a Happy 76th to Joel Grey and 61st to Peter Riegert.

edgar, I understand what you mean by his voice sounding like Johnny, but it is a good voice and a good song. Thanks, Texas.

Raggedy, I'm with you. That Johnny will always be merely "boy".

Let's hear one from Liza and Joel from Cabaret, ok?

All but forgotten is Jack Scott. He made several songs I still enjoy.

Hey, edgar. Don't know Jack Scott, but that songs reminds me of this one by Sha Na Na. What an era. Just found this bit of background about one of the members.

One former Sha Na Na member from the television show lineup, Dave "Chico" Ryan, died in 1998. The group's first guitarist, Henry Gross, went on to become a solo artist, and had a hit single titled "Shannon" in 1976. Vinnie Taylor (1949 - 1974) (real name Chris Donald), who replaced Gross as the lead guitarist in 1970, died from a heroin overdose on April 17, 1974, after a concert at University Hall at the University of Virginia. He was found in a Holiday Inn hotel room in Charlottesville, Virginia. Another founding member of the band, Robert Leonard, is a professor of linguistics at Hofstra University. Founding member Alan Cooper, the lead singer in the group's performance of "At The Hop" in the Woodstock film, also went on to an academic career, and he is now professor of Bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York. "Bowzer" Bauman also continues to tour under his own banner. Elliot Cahn, the group's original rhythm guitar player and musical arranger, later became the first manager of Green Day. Another founding member of the band went on from Woodstock to become a physician. Joey Witkin, the original key board player (and singer of the Sha Na Na cover of Teenager in Love) is an internist living with his family in San Diego, Ca. He's still playing with a band "The Corvettes" (http://www.thecorvettes.com/Home.html) doing an oldies revue.
The band remains well-known for their tracks on the Grease soundtrack, including "Those Magic Changes", "Hound Dog", "Rock & Roll Is Here to Stay", "Blue Moon", "Born to Hand-Jive" and "Tears on My Pillow", the song "Sandy" sung by John Travolta for which Screamin' Scott Simon wrote the lyrics, and for their appearance in the film itself during the school dance scene as well as the Woodstock movie and the more recent Festival Express.

Hank Locklin made a great record here. Eventually, the Johnny Cash version implanted itself in my mind, making it hard to choose a favorite. It's hard to beat lyrics like these.

Yes, Texas, lyrics often make the song.

That led me to recall dear Fats. He's still with us, folks.

I read somewhere that Fats hated that song. So, when they insisted he record it, he told them to get it in one take, because he was not going to sing it a second time. He even got a few lines wrong. But, it was one of his bigger hits.

Nobody can accuse Sidney Poitier of being a singer, but this from Lilies of the Field is pretty entertaining.

Thanks, edgar. I loved that movie and Sidney Poitier was his own man. As I recall, he refused to use his Academy Award to further any cause.

Time for me to say goodnight, and believe it or not, there's a King Kong movie on that was made in 2007.

So let's hear one from Jim Croce. (miss you Jim)

Good morning WA2K radio audience.

edgar, indeed I do wonder what wonderful music Jim Croce would be producing today.

Well, folks, we do know that Herbie Hancock is still with us, and here's one by him in honor of his birthday, which is today.

Watermelon Man.

Here is something nice by Dave Brubeck Quartet. Can't say much for the graphics. Fortunately, we don't have to watch to play the music (This is radio, he he).

Hey, edgar. Love "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck. Very unusual timing and I met him at one of the London Symphony Orchestra's performances. He was a featured attraction as one of the subsets of the symphony in Daytona Beach.

Here's one that I love, folks, and I have never heard it sung more beautifully. Sondheim, of course. <smile>
