edgar, it's from a CD called Shout, Sister, Shout! A Tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The lineup of musicians is amazing. I've been looking but so far this is the only song from the CD that I can find on YouTube.

When Kenny Rogers went solo, he lost me as a fan for several years. I've got back to liking his music, but I look back with nostalgia on the First Edition years.

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Tai, I think that Sarah Vaughn and Sister Rosetta Tharpe were sisters, but I am not certain. Thanks for that great music, gal.

edgar, the first song that I heard by Kenny was "Ruby". He's still great, regardless.

Here's one by Odetta and she combines "Careless Love" and 'St. Louis Blues". She sings 'em both as they should be sung, y'all.

YouTube has changed, somewhat. Perhaps that is because Google bought it.

I only came to appreciate Eddy Veddor, after I heard him cover a Dylan song. This one is from a film I never saw.

Thanks, edgar. Great song, buddy. Never heard him, but I have heard of Pearl Jam.

Well, folks, here's a song from a movie that I did see, The Village, and it was really bad. I only watched it because Joaquin Phoenix was in it, and as today is Michael Pitt's birthday (he was in it as well) Let's hear the theme. (Michael Pitt is Brad's cousin)

If you could read my mind
Gordon Lightfoot is one of my faves of the late '60s to present. His combination of talents as singer-songwriter are almost unmatched. I'm amazed at the images/memories/thoughts that his music and voice convey as soon as they start up.

Listen and watch this link and see if you agree:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR56HUfV3zI

(Video belongs to an TV episode of "House" w/ House/Stacy romance as backdrop.)

Lyrics to "If You Could Read My Mind"

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
'bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see
If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
The hero would be me
But heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three-way script
Enter number two
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love, let's be real
* I never thought I could act this way *
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old-time movie
'bout a ghost from a wishin' well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
But the stories always end
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feelin's that you lack
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back

The Dangling Conversation
Keeping that singer-songwriter theme:

Simon & Garfunkel

The Dangling Conversation

It's a still life water-color,
Of a now-late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
The borders of our lives.

And you read your Emily Dickinson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we've lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
And the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.

Yes, we speak of things that matter,
With words that must be said,
Can analysis be worthwhile?
Is the theater really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
You're a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

First time I ever heard that recording. I love it. Very Happy I have Joan Baez singing that song in French, but never heard the English lyrics.

Never heard Eddie Veddor or that Dylan song either, Edgar. I like it.

Although I'm not a Kenny Rogers fan, this is a song he does that I love. I like his recording of it better, though.

Ragman, I truly adore Gordon Lightfoot, and that song was fantastic, especially with Hugh Laurie in the picture. Thanks for the Dangling Conversations by Simon and Garfunkel as well. Boy, folks, have we all been there.

There's our Raggedy with a delightful quartet and a song by Kenny. Great, PA. Oh, my. There's that kid from The Sixth Sense. Great actor, and I cannot believe he is twenty years old. The only movie, starring him and Kevin Spacey, that depressed me was "Pay it Forward".

I never realized that Hugh Laurie was such a fantastic musician and I love this one by him.

Good song by Eddy, edgar. I often wonder if it's the music that we like; the delivery of the performers, or the message that it sends.

Thanks, Texas and here's one that is odd to me as I don't quite understand it.

Well, Eddy says it's a love song to his surf board. Who would I be to argue?

Incidentally, letty, I can like an artist, as well as the delivery, but, if it's not a good (to me) song, I won't listen, regardless.

I have been listening to Big Mama Thornton, today. I like her Ball and Chain, and also, Hound Dog.

Hey, edgar. Big Mama is better than Elvis on that one.

Incidentally, edgar and all. There are songs that we like and we're not certain why we like them.

I really never appreciated Bobby Darin until I heard him sing Mack the Knife.

Love this one by him, too.

I have loved Bobby Darin from the beginning, watching him develope from a songwriter to a rock singer to a multi faceted artist, who can deliver as few can. As a teenager, I formed a brotherly bond with him, in my own imagining, following his every move. I still miss him, in the way one usually misses a family member.

Believe me, edgar, I know exactly what you mean, and Kevin Spacey did a marvelous job of portraying him. There's another talented actor.

Remember this group?

Sometimes we have trouble with our equipment in our wee cyber studio. Sorry that didn't work, but I just discovered that The Seekers are an Aussie group, so we'll have to dedicate that one to our down under friends.

My word, edgar. Cher really used a different style on that one. I really liked her version, Texas.

Like Bobby Darin, Dan Fogleberg died much to soon, so for my son who did a great video of this one for his father, here is one that I shall always treasure.

edgar, I hope your lovely wife is listening. That song was marvelous, and the comments that some people made about Willie and Julio(sp) are in poor taste. It's the contrast that makes it so moving.

Time for me to say goodnight, and I think this is a good for one for a teacher to climb into bed with. Razz
