Well, there's our Raggedy with a perfect montage of celeb's. Thanks, PA.

Ah, I recall your having said that about Al and reminding us that he played in the Godfather.

I never see Vaughn M. that I don't think of Ambrose Bierce's short story, Horseman in the Sky. Heard from Mr. Lee a couple of days ago, too. I guess many may have forgotten his original song, Cowboy from Boston. What a talent, and his guitar is sweeter than wine. <smile>

Frankly, all. I didn't realize that Toni Braxton was black(not actually; more of a gentle brown. Razz )

Wow! I love the song Dear Heart. I didn't realize that Al sang that, just that it was written by Johnny Mercer.

Back later with the lyrics to Dear Heart, folks.

Wow! edgar. More synchronicity. You were simply faster. I think those are the right word to Ghost Riders. (great song in anticipation of Halloween)

Here's Dear Heart, folks.

Dear heart, wish you were here
To warm this night
My dear heart, seems like a year
Since you've been out of my sight

A single room, a table for one
It's a lonesome town all right

But soon I'll kiss you hello at our front door
And dear heart I want you to know
I'll leave your arms never more

Johnny also wrote P.S. I Love you.

There was a fairly entertaining episode of Bonanza, in which Vaughn Monroe guest starred, as a hopelessly inept ladies' man. Adam Cartwrite (Pernell Roberts) took him under his wing and tried to smooth out the rough edges, but, at first, nothing worked. Then, they hit on the idea of Monroe seranading his intended lover. But, despite a decent voice, he simply could not sing a song. After Adam gave him voice lessons, and nearly give up on the idea in the process, Monroe finally grasped the idea and sang his way into the lady's heart. Pernell Roberts also recorded an album, which had its moments, but was nothing on which to build a singing career.

My word, edgar. What keen RNA you possess. We have become so dependent on electronics, that we no longer bother to remember without looking stuff up.

Peripheral learning is often the source of recalling things, and I hope we have not lost it. Incidentally, peripherally, I saw a small item about Google. It had something to do with greed and the demise of the internet.

Word of the day with definition:

Peripheral vision

Peripheral vision is a part of vision that occurs outside the very center of gaze. There is a broad set of non-central points in the field of view that is included in the notion of peripheral vision. "Far peripheral" vision exists at the edges of the field of view, "mid-peripheral" vision exists in the middle of the field of view, and "near-peripheral", sometimes referred to as "paracentral" vision, exists adjacent to the center of gaze[citation needed].

Letty, I love Johnny Mercer, but I don't think we can give him credit for Dear Heart. Very Happy

Dear Heart:Music by Henry Mancini and Words by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans
title song from the movie starring Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page and Angela Lansbury

I saw the premiere of "Dear Heart" at Radio City Music Hall and loved the movie and the song. It was sung by a chorus in the movie, but a friend suggested I listen to Al Martino's version and it is my favorite rendition.

Another oops and uhoh, Raggedy. Thanks, for the correction, and as I have said, I NEVER mind being wrong, but often, being right has caused me some grief.

I'm rather stubborn about searching for things, folks, and I enjoyed the movie French Kiss so much, that I have looked and looked for translations to Dream a Little Dream of Me.

Finally found the French translation, but it's rather complicated, so here is the Italian version.

Artista: Michael Buble'
Titolo Originale: Dream A Little Dream
Titolo Tradotto: Sogna Di Un Piccolo Sogno

sto desiderando di rimanere fino all'alba, cara.

sto desiderando di rimanere fino all'alba, cara.

And the English lyrics for comparison, listeners.

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you."
Birds singing in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me.

Say "Night-ie night" and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me.

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear
Just saying this.

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me.

Heart Of Glass
Blondie

[Written by Deborah Harry and Chris Stein]

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust
Love's gone behind

Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing
But I was so blind
Mucho mistrust
Love's gone blind

In between
What I find is pleasing
And I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing
There's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losin' you
It's just no good
You teasin' like you do

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust
Love's gone behind

Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using
Please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruisin', yeah

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light
ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
ooh-ooh-ooh, whoa
Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing only to find
Mucho mistrust
Love's gone behind

In between
What I find is pleasing
And I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing
There's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losin' you
It's just no good
You teasin' like you do

edgar, I like that song by Deborah Harry. Didn't she have a drug problem for a while?

I was thinking about James Taylor again, and the first song that I heard by him. He was only twenty when he did this and was suffering from drug dependency and depression.

Lots of folks have analyzed the lyrics, but whatever their meaning, they are lovely though sad.

Fire and Rain

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans they made made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me Jesus
You got to help me make a stand
You just got to see me through another day
My body's achin' and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walkin' my mind to an easy time
My back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows
It'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line
To talk about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again now
Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things comin' my way this time around now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you
Fire and rain

Well, that is what makes art, music and poetry so wonderful, edgar. Everyone has a different interpretation, and all can be correct.

For example, listeners, this song by Gordon Lightfoot...

Sundown
Gordon Lightfoot

I can see her lyin' back in her faded dress
In a room where ya do what ya don't confess
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you bin creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you bin creepin' 'round my back stairs

She's bin lookin' like a queen in a sailor's dream
And she don't always say what she really means
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain

I can picture every move that a man could make
Getting lost in her lovin' is your first mistake
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you bin creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin again

I can see her lookin' fast in her faded jeans
She's a hard lovin' woman, got me feelin' mean
Sometimes I think it's a shame
When I get feelin' better when I'm feelin' no pain
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you bin creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sundown ya better take care
If I find you bin creepin' 'round my back stairs
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin' again

greetings to all on the CANADIAN THANKSGIVING WEEKEND !

http://susannassketchbook.typepad.com/susannas_sketchbook/images/road_in_the_fall.jpg

and some mellow tunes to relax by :

Quote:
Beyond the Sea

Billie Holiday, George Benson

Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing

Somewhere beyond the sea
He's watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straigt to his arms I'd go sailing
It's far beyond a star, it's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon

We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
Some sailing

Hey, hbg. Did you know that Beyond the Sea was Cavfancier/Paul's favorite song? Now I cannot find who wrote it. I love it and the movie done so well by Kevin Spacey.

So, this is the Canadian Thanksgiving is it. I hope you are not having a Canadian goose for the occasion. Razz Happy holiday!

Well, Canada. Tomorrow is a Bank holiday here. Don't think too many Americans will be celebrating that one.

Love this one by Bobbie

Just give me a steel guitar, a glass of wine
And let me drink to a love I thought was mine
A love I thought was true to me
But now I'm drinkin' to her memory
A steel guitar and a glass of wine
While my tears they glisten and the candles shine
Oh candle-glow, oh candle bright
Tell me who she holds tonight

And bring me wine
And make the music mine
Play another set
So that I'll forget

Mmm, bring me a steel guitar and a glass of wine
And let me toast her just one more time
Oh candle-glow, before you dim
Tell her what a fool she's been

And bring me wine
Make the music mine
Play another set
So that I'll forget

And bring me a steel guitar and a glass of wine
And let me toast her just one more time
Oh candle-glow, before you dim
Tell her what a fool she's been

And one more thing before I go
Here's a secret, I still love her so
And one more thing before I go
Here's a secret, I still love her so
And one more thing before I go
Here's a secret, I still love her so
And one more thing before I go
Here's a secret, I still love her so

Well, more learning for me, folks. I had no idea that Paul Anka was Canadian. Frankly, I like the older Paul, but I'm sorta weird that way.

Didn't know that he wrote the English lyrics to My Way, either.

Don't know the melody to this one, but I most certainly know the occasion, and Paul sang it.

Many men came here as soldiers
Many men will pass this way
Many men will count the hours
As they live the longest day
Many men are tired and weary
Many men are here to stay
Many men won't see the sunset
When it ends the longest day
The longest day the longest day
This will be the longest day
Filled with hopes and filled with fears
Filled with blood and sweat and tears
Mant men the mighty thousands
Many men to victory
Marching on right into battle
In the longest day in history

Wow! He was one of my idols as a kid, when TV was Black and white!
He sounds angry, that no one knew he wrote My Way, so associated with Frank Sinatra.

teenyboone, welcome to WA2K. Glad you have great RNA. Razz

Fat and full right now, so I guess I had better say goodnight.

Here's my goodnight song from an Irish group called BoyZone.

It's all in a perfect way
Just a part of the perfect way
And as long as the world goes around
I will pray as I lay me down
At the end of a perfect day
I wake to greet another morning
And feel the cold beneath my feet
I rise to hear my future calling
It's calling to me

I watch the people through my window
Then turn the radio up loud
And then I sit and watch the sun go
And I know as the rain's coming down

[ CHORUS ]

Everybody needs some highs and lows
I guess we're lucky to be here
And I don't care which way the wind blows
Cos I know through the
laughter and the tears

[ CHORUS ]

Just a part of the perfect way
And as long as the world goes around
I will pray as I lay me down
At the end of a perfect
At the end of a perfect
At the end of a perfect day

Goodnight, my friends
From Letty with love

Good morning, WA2K radio audience.

Today is my daughter's birthday.

http://www1.bestgraph.com/gifs/culture/balance/balance-03.gif

This poem seems perfect for her, folks.

My Daughter

You'll never really know, my dear,
Just how much you mean to me,
A mother's love, buried so deep,
That only my heart can see.

When I sit and really stare at you,
All I can do is grin,
Somewhere down deep inside,
I see myself within.

I'd never change a thing in you,
I thank God that you're so fine,
Even when you're at your worst,
I'm so proud that you are mine.

The roads we have traveled,
were not always that good,
I would take back all the pain you've felt,
Only if I could.

I know that I'm not perfect,
It's the best that I can do,
But everyday, I thank the lord,
For a daughter as special as you.

Janet Jenkins.

Missed edgar's comment on the three authors of the song "My Way". It seems that Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version.
