I pity the poor immigrant
Who wishes he would've stayed home,
Who uses all his power to do evil
But in the end is always left so alone.
That man whom with his fingers cheats
And who lies with ev'ry breath,
Who passionately hates his life
And likewise, fears his death.

I pity the poor immigrant
Whose strength is spent in vain,
Whose heaven is like Ironsides,
Whose tears are like rain,
Who eats but is not satisfied,
Who hears but does not see,
Who falls in love with wealth itself
And turns his back on me.

I pity the poor immigrant
Who tramples through the mud,
Who fills his mouth with laughing
And who builds his town with blood,
Whose visions in the final end
Must shatter like the glass.
I pity the poor immigrant
When his gladness comes to pass.

I Pity the Poor Immigrant
Bob Dylan

edgar, there must be a story behind that song.

Remember this, folks?

Harbours open their doors to the young searching foreigner
Come to live in the light of the big L of liberty
Plains and open skies bill boards would advertise
Was it anything like that when you arrived?
Dream boats carried the future to the heart of America
People were waiting in line for a place by the river

Chorus
It was time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear
It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room
That people could come from everywhere

Now he arrvies with hopes and his heart set on miracles
Come to marry his fortune with a hand full of promises
To find they've closed the door they don't want him anymore
There isn't anymore to go around
Turning away he remembers he once heard a legend
That spoke of a mystical magical land called America

It was time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear
It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room
That people could come from everywhere

It was time when strangers were welcome here
Music would play they tell me the days were sweet and clear
It was a sweeter tune and there was so much room
That people could come from everywhere

LED ZEPPILIN - THE IMMIGRANT'S SONG

Quote:
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
>from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!

http://academic.scranton.edu/organization/rugby/valhalla.gif

On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
>from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green,
Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war.
We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now youd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing.

hbg

Quote:
Artist: Turbonegro

Song: Sailor man

Oh so handsome -
Oh so strong -
Tell me stories of distant shores -
All night long -
I shiver all over -
When I see your lovly tan -
And I can tell by your clear blue eyes -
Your a sailor man -

Oh sailor man -
From polar land -
Oh sailor man -
Come take my hand -
Oh sailor man - Take me along -
Show me the porta-prince and Hong Kong -

Oh sailor man -
I sure hope you don't drown-
I'd rather have you showing me Cape Town -
You know your to New York, New York -
Where we can go to bars -
A strong blonde handsome sailor -
Norwegians call you Lars -

Oh sailor man -
From polar land -
Oh sailor man -
Come take my hand -
Oh sailor man -
I'd gladly die -
To see the ports of Rostock and Shanghai -

Sailor Man -
Oh, sailor man -
Please take my hand -
Oh tender sailor man

i'll have to make do with CAPTAIN NEMO'S SONG - sung by sarah brightman .
some years ago we actually took a ride in captain nemo's fake submarine at disney - oh , the shame of it all Laughing

Quote:
Captain Nemo

http://utd500.utdallas.edu/~hairston/nemochar.gif

Under the surface so crystal clear
Everyone was really tense
Waiting down there
He had his own world just like I had mine
We'll go seperate ways 'til the next time
There are no words to say as
My friend swims away

Captain nemo said, okay
(five, four, three, two, one)
Then I raised my hand and waved
Captain nemo went away
(love me when I'm gone)
Left 'em all alone, nemo's going home

And as I watched him, police boats approached
An alien force haunting us like ghosts
Wish I could stay here and play for a while
But I must be on my way...
The warmest of smiles
Then he dived into the waves among the other whales

Captain nemo said, okay
(five, four, three, two, one)
Then I raised my hand and waved
Captain nemo went away
(love me when I'm gone)
Left 'em all alone, nemo's going home...

hamburger, I love the way you illustrate your music.

Valhalla was particularly impressive, Canada, and Captain Nemo's song especially delightful, and certainly turbonegro reflects your seaworthiness.

Love 'em all, you canuck, you. Razz

How about one with an oriental flavor, and we can dedicate this to satt, C.I. and M.D.

Power of MUSIC
Lyrics: Angela Aki Translation: Jonathan Wu

Faraway, someone's dream is being denied
you approach me and close your eyes, whispering
"Those lonely people, shrouded by silence,
are awaiting the sound of love"
I make music with the love in
the little words you say
the little things you do
(It's the power of music)
With you by my side I can keep singing my song
untill the end of the end
Within silence, waits the shadow of a brighter future
When I was little, every time I lost my
direction, you'd grab my tiny hand and guide me
I make music with the love in
the little strength you show
the little feelings you display
(It's the power of music)
With you by my side I can find certainty in my dreams
untill the end of the end
Power of music
I make music with the love in
the little words you say
the little things you do
(It's the power of music)
With you by my side I can keep singing my song
untill the end of the end
(I hear the music)
I can find certainty in my dreams

Back later with the Japanese version.

"surprise , surprise , surprise ! " - gomer pyle

Quote:
There Was a Sea Captain

There was a sea captain who was married of late,
He courted a lady to gain her estate;
He was a sea captain, and bound for the sea,
And before he was bedded he was call-ed away,

With his fol dee die addy, fol dee die addy die ay.

Now there was a young squire who liv-ed hard by,
And he was resolv-ed this lady to try;
So early one morning the squire arose,
And dressed himself up in the best of his clothes,

He called for his coach and his footman behind,
He met this young lady and bade her be kind;
She said, "Ye young squire, ye talk like a man that was poor,
And my husband captain would call me a whore"

So he took her in his arms and gave her a kiss,
Saying, "A slice from a cut loaf would never be missed".
....
....

Now when six months was over, and nine months had come,
That very same night this young captain came home;
He took her in his arms and gave her a kiss,
Said he, "My dear jewel, you are. Thick 'round the waist",

"It is nothing but fatness", this lady she cried.
....
....
"Would you have me as slim as when I was a maid?"

Now when supper was ended she went to the hall;
She opened her mouth and gave a loud call :
"The colic, the colic, the colic!" she cried;
"I am so bad with the colic I fear I shall die"

The cook she made answer out of the next room :
....
....
"I am so bad with the colic I can not come down"

The doctor was sent for, her pulse for to feel;
Be said she was bad from her head to her heel;
He felt of her pulse, and shaking his head,
"She will get better, once she is brought to bed "

The mid-wife was sent for, and when she came there,
Herself was delivered of a young son and heir.
The cook and the house-maid all brought forth the same,
And then it was poor Jenny, she ended the game,

He said, "My dear jewel, you have had a fine year
And for the joke's sake I will forgive you, my dear;
But one thing I would ask you, tell me if you can
Does all these four babies belong to one man?"

"Sir, it is for myself that I can say ;
It was the young squire that did me betray;
It was the young squire that did me beguile,
And the rest of his servants got my maids with child

Now come all you sea captains, take warning from this,
And do not blame your wife for doing amiss ;
For their husbands' long absence they can not well want,
Since the mistress and maids took the blanket carent

One Night
Elvis Presley

One night with you
Is what I'm now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Just call my name
And I'll be right by your side
I want your sweet helping hand
My loves too strong to hide

Always lived, very quiet life
I ain't never did no wrong
Now I know that life without you
Has been too lonely too long

One night with you
Is what I'm now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Always lived, very quiet life
I ain't never did no wrong
Now I know that life without you
Has been too lonely too long

One night with you
Is what I'm now praying for
The things that we two could plan
Would make my dreams come true

Dear John
Pat Boone

CHORUS)
Dear John (Dear John)
Oh, how I hate to write
Dear John (Dear John)
I must let you know tonight

That my love for you has gone
There's no reason to go on
For tonight I wed another
Dear John

(Spoken)
I was overseas in battle
When the postman came to me
And he handed me a letter
Aw, I was happy as I could be
You see, the fighting was
All over and the battles
They'd all been won
Then I, I opened up the letter
And it started, Dear John

(CHORUS)

(Spoken)
Will you please send back my picture
You see, my husband wants it now
When I tell you who I'm wedding
You won't care, dear, anyhow

Now the ceremony has started
And I'll wed your brother, Don
Please wish us happiness forever
Dear John

A [f] tongue can accuse and carry bad [c] news
The [f] seeds of distrust, it will [c] sow
But [f] unless youve made no mistakes in your [c] life
Be careful of [g7] stones that you [c] throw.

(spoken)
[c] a neighbor was passing my [f] garden one time
[c] she stopped and I knew right away [g7]
That it was gossip, not flowers, she had on her mind [c]
And this is what I heard my neighbor say:

[c] that girl down the street [f] should be run from our midst
[c] she drinks and she talks quite a lot [g7]
She knows not to speak to my child or to me. [c]
My neighbor then smiled and I thought:

Chorus

(spoken)
A car speeded by and the screamin of brakes
A sound that made my blood chill
For my neighbors one child had been pulled from the path
And saved by a girl lying still.

The child was unhurt and my neighbor cried out:
Oh! who was that brave girl so sweet?
I covered the crushed, broken body and said:
The bad girl who lived down the street.

Power of MUSIC

belated thanks; here's something by one of Seattle's finest, James Marshall Hendrix, with the Band of Gypsies: Cool

Power to Love

Shoot down some of those airplanes you been drivin',
especially the ones that'll fly you too low.
Shoot down some of those airplanes,
especially the ones that'll fly you too low.
Come back down to earth my friend,
come back up with me.
With all been through the night time baby,
darlin, sweet caress of reality.

With the power of soul,
anything is possible.
With the power of soul,
anything is possible.

Flyin' so much with one toy, babe,
it's an escape to a far away land.
It's so groovy to float around sometimes,
even a jellyfish will tell you that.
I said flotation is groovy and easy.
Even a jellyfish will agree to that.
Yeah, but old jellyfish been floatin' so long and so slack,
ain't got a bone in his jelly back.
Floatin' everyday and every night, ridin' high,
even if there's a risk, sometimes the wind ain't right.

With the power of soul,
anything is possible.
With the power of soul,
anything is possible.
With the power of soul,
anything is possible.
With the power of soul,
anything is possible.
With the power of you,
anything that you want to do.

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

UhOh, hbg. A woman in every port? Ah, love oh love or careless love. Love it, Canada.

edgar, much obliged for the olio of music from Pat, Hank, and Elvis. We love the variety here on our cyber radio.

My goodness, folks, there's our erstwhile turtle back and singing about the soul. Love it, M.D.

See that little jellyfish? He's dark because the sun hasn't arisen.

Here's one from Sarah for the early morning tide.

Artist: Sarah Brightman
Song: If love were all
Album: Songs That Got Away

Fate may often treat me meanly
But I keenly pursue
A little mirage in the blue,
Determination helps me through.

Though I never really grumble,
Life's a jumble indeed
And in my efforts to succeed
I've had to formulate a creed.

I believe in doing what I can
In crying when I must
In laughing when I choose
Hey ho, if love were all
I should be lonely.

I believe the more you love a man,
The more you give your trust,
The more you're bound to lose.
Although when shadows fall
I think if only
Somebody splendid really needed me
Someone affectionate and dear
Cares would be ended if I knew that he
Wanted to have me near.

But I believe that since my life began
The most I've had is just a talent to amuse.
Hey ho, if love were all.
Hey ho, if love were all.

Although when shadows fall
I think if only
Somebody splendid really needed me
Someone affectionate and dear
Cares would be ended if I knew that he
Wanted to have me near.

But I believe that since my life began
The most I've had is just a talent to amuse.
Hey ho, if love were all.
Hey ho, if love were all.

Hey ho, if love were all.

Well, folks, our Raggedy is here early this morning. Hey, PA. Sarah sings a lot of fascinating things I have found.

Well, there's a delightful duo today. Stan the man and Jack. Thanks again, pretty pup.

I will now play this song in honor of Stan and Ollie as they starred in Bohemian Girl.

Song Lyrics
From The Bohemian Girl

The Gipsy Girl's Dream*

I dreamt that I dwelt in marble halls,
With vassals and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls,
That I was the hope and the pride.

I had riches too great to count, could boast
Of a high ancestral name;
But I also dreamt, which pleased me most,
That you lov'd me still the same...

That you lov'd me, you lov'd me still the same,
That you lov'd me, you lov'd me still the same.

I dreamt that suitors sought my hand;
That knights upon bended knee,
And with vows no maiden heart could withstand,
They pledg'd their faith to me;

And I dreamt that one of that noble host
Came forth my hand to claim.
But I also dreamt, which charmed me most,
That you lov'd me still the same...

That you lov'd me, you lov'd me still the same,
That you lov'd me, you lov'd me still the same.

Carroll County`s pointed out as kind of square
G
The biggest thing that happens is the county fair,
G D
I guess that`s why we thought it such a big event,
G
What we call the Carroll County accident.

The wreck was on the highway just outside the line,
Walter Browning lost his life and for a time
It seemed that Mary Ellen Jones would surely die,
But she lived long enough for her to testify.

Mary Ellen testified that he flagged her down,
Said he was sick and could she drive him into town,
No one ever doubted what she said was true,
`Cause she was well respected in the county too.

I went down to see the wreck like all the rest,
The broken glass the bloody seats the tangled mess,
But I found something no one else had ever seen,
Behind the dash in Mary`s crumpled up machine.

A little match box circled by a rubber band,
And inside the ring from Walter Browning`s hand,
It took awhile to figure out just what it meant,
The truth about the Carroll County accident.

By dark of night I dropped the ring into a well,
And took a sacred oath that I would never tell,
The truth about the Carroll County accident,
For the County ordered dad a marble monument,

Yes, I lost him in the Carroll County accident.

Any old port in a storm, hbg, and just where is Morgantown, Virginia? Razz

Hey, edgar, and where is Carroll County? Sounds like a song of reality, Texas. How long ago did Dolly and Porter do their thing.

Several well know folks have done this one, but I think we get the idea, listeners.

Oh love, oh love, oh careless love.

I love my mama - and papa, too -
I'd leave them just to go with you.
Mama, mama, don't you cry,
For I'll get me another by and by.
Oh love, oh love, oh careless love.
Love oh careless love.

Once I wore my apron low,
You'd follow me through rain and snow.
Now I wear my apron high
And you see my door and pass it by.
Oh love, oh love, oh careless love.
Love oh careless love.

You worried my mother till she died
And you caused my father to lose his mind.
Now my money's spent and gone
You passed my door singin' a song.
Oh love, oh love, oh careless love.
Love oh careless love.

You fly though my head like wine
And you nearly spoiled this life of mine.
You fly to my head like wine
But you'll never break this heart of mine.
Oh love, oh love, oh careless love.
Love oh careless love.

Jerry Lee Lewis - She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye

Mornings come and Lord, my mind is achin',
Yes it is
Sunshine standing quietly at my door
Just like the dawn my heart is silently breaking
With my tears it goes tumbling to the floor

Once again, the whole town will be talking,
Yes they will
Lord, I 've seen the pity that's in their eyes
They could never understand,
It's her sorrow it's not a man
No matter what they say we know she tried

Babys packed her soft things and she's left me,
She's left me, she's left me
And I know she didn't mean to make me cry
It's not her heart, Lord, its her mind
She didn't mean to be unkind
Why she even woke me up to say goodbye

It's not her heart, Lord its her mind
She didn't mean to be unkind
Why she even woke me up to say goodbye
Goodbye Baby

edgar, the line, "sunshine standing quietly at my door" reminded me of this one. Ah, the day of the generation gap, folks.

Artist: Jonathan Edwards
Song: Sunshine (Go Away Today)

Sunshine go away today
I don't feel much like dancing
Some man's gone, he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's asking

He tells me I'd better get in line
Can't hear what he's saying
When I grow up I'm going to make it mine
But these aren't dues I been paying

(Chorus)
How much does it cost, I'll buy it
The time is all we've lost, I'll try it
But he can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine, Sunshine

Sunshine go away today
I don't feel much like dancing
Some man's gone he's tried to run my life
Don't know what he's asking

Working starts to make me wonder where
The fruits of what I do are going
He says in love and war all is fair
But he's got cards he ain't showing

(Chorus)

Sunshine come on back another day
I promise you I'll be singing
This old world, she's gonna turn around
Brand new bells'll be ringing
