Ok, folks. I'm dedicating this WWI song to me and JPB.

Pack up your troubles
In your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.
While you've a lucifer
To light your fag.
Smile, boys,
That's the style.
What's the use of worrying,
It never was worth while,

So ---- Pack up your troubles
In your old kit bag
And smile, smile, smile.

OK, I packed 'em up and I'm smiling, Letty, and wishing all a Good Afternoon. Very Happy

In remembrance of Burl Ives and Dorothy McGuire on their day:

See, things are looking better all over 'cause there's our Raggedy with her famous folks. Not to worry about Donald Trump, PA. I can't stand that man's face nor his presence here. HE'S FIRED!

There's Mr. Ives and Miss McGuire.

For Burl, and this has been done by Joan Baez.

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
A-trav'ling through this land of woe.
And there's no sickness, toil or danger
In that bright world to which I go.
I'm going home to see my father (mother, sister, brother etc.)
I'm going there no more to roam;
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home.

I know dark clouds will gather 'round me
I know my way is steep and rough;
But beauteous fields lie just beyond me
Where souls redeemed their vigil keep.
I'm going there to meet my mother
She said she'd meet me when I come
I'm just a-going over Jordan
I'm just a-going over home.
I want to wear a crown of glory
When I get home to that bright land
I want to shout Salvation's story
In concert with that bloodwashed band.
I'm going there to meet my Saviour
To sing His praises forevermore
I'm only going over Jordan
I'm only going over home.

All done in a minor key, folks, but we're still smiling.

Very Happy

here we are in WW I !

(my brother who served in WW II , also thought PAREE was to place to be - he even showed me the picture of his french girlfriend Very Happy )

http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mo/county/stlouis/ww1-music/downonthefarm2.jpg

Quote:
Verse1:

"Reuben, Reuben, I've been thinking,"
Said his wifey dear;
"Now that all is peaceful and calm,
The boys will soon be back on the farm;"
Mister Reuben, started wink-ing,
And slowly rubbed his chin;
He pulled his chair up close to mother,
And he asked her with a grin:

CHORUS [sung twice after each verse]
How 'ya gonna keep 'em, down on the farm,
After they've seen Pa-ree?
How 'ya gonna keep 'em away from Broad-way;
Jazzin' a-'round',
And paintin' the town?
How 'ya gonna keep 'em away from harm?
That's a mistery;
They'll never want to see a rake or plow,
And who the deuce can parleyvous a cow?
How 'ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm,
After they've seen Paree?

Verse 2:

"Reuben, Reuben, You're mistaken,"
Said his wifey dear;
"Once a farmer, always a jay,
And farmers always stick to the hay;"
"Mother Reuben, I'm not fakin',
Tho' you may think it strange;
But wine and women play the mischief,
With a boy who's loose with change:"

All right, hbg. Great WWI songs. My brother served in WWII as well, Canada. I never got to know him. My dad served in WWI, but I did know him.

Here's another great war to end all wars song, and then we'll call on Vera Lynn.

Good-bye New York town, goodbye Miss
Liberty,
Your light of freedom will guide us across
the sea,
Ev'ry soldier's sweetheart bidding
goodbye,
Ev'ry soldier's mother drying her eye,
Cheer up we'll soon be there,
Singing this Yankee air:

Good-bye Broadway, Hello France,
We're ten million strong,
Good-bye sweethearts, wives and mothers;
It won't take us long,
Don't you worry while we're there;
It's for you we're fighting too,
So Good-bye Broadway, Hello France;
We're going to square our debt to you.

Lyrics: C. Francis Reisner & Benny Davis
Music: Billy Baskette.

Another sense of calm, folks, is looking at the vast sweep of the Atlantic as I was driving home on A1A. Nothing is more majestic. Simple words are not enough.

I've been living a new way of life that I love so
But I can see the clouds are gathering
And the storm will wreck our home
For last night he held you tightly
And you didn't even shun
This is true for I've been watching (watching you)
From the window up above

You must have thought that I was sleeping
And I wished that I had been
But I guess it's best to get to know you
And the way your heart can sin
I thought we belonged together
And our hearts fit like a glove
I was wrong for I've been watching (watching you)
From the window up above

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

From my eyes, the teardrops started
As I listened on and on
Heard you whisper to him, softly
That our marriage was all wrong
But, I hope he makes you happy
And you will never lose his love
I was wrong, I was watching (watching you)
From the window above

How I wish I could be dreaming
And wake up to a honest love
Well, I was wrong, for I've been watching (watching you)
From the window up above

The Window Up Above

Over The Mountain (Across The Sea)
Johnnie & Joe

[Written by Rex Garvin]

Over the mountain
Across the sea
There's a girl, she's waiting for me

Cross over the river, beyond every cloud
She's passed the wind that's blowing loud
Over the mountain, a girl waits for me

Tell all the sands and every blade of grass
Please tell the wind to let my love pass
Over the mountain, a girl waits for me

Tell the moon up in the sky
Tell the birds that fly by
That over and over and over the mountain
My love waits for me

Into each dark and starry night
Oh, what a mystery that's sealed so tight
Over the mountain, a girl waits for me

Put Your Head On My Shoulder
Paul Anka

Put your head on my shoulder
Hold me in your arms, baby
Squeeze me oh so tight
Show me that you love me too

Put your lips next to mine, dear
Won't you kiss me once, baby
Just a kiss goodnight, maybe
You and I will fall in love
(You and I will fall in love)

People say that love's a game
A game you just can't win
If there's a way
I'll find it someday
And then this fool with rush in

Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear
Tell me, tell me that you love me too
(Tell me that you love me too)

Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear, baby
Put your head on my shoulder

hbg, That's not a translation of "Yours" is it? Razz

Know that Beatle song, buddy, and I'm still hung up on WWII right now, so give me a chance and we'll get peace one way or another.

Ah, well. No luck, so I'll just do another, Canada.

Certainly didn't know this one was WWII.

A NIGHTINGALE SANG IN BERKLEY SQUARE
Music by Eric Maschwitz Words by Manning Sherwin 1919

When true lovers meet in Mayfair,
So the legends tell,
Song birds sing,
Winter turns to spring,
Ev'ry winding street in Mayfair falls beneath the spell.
I know such enchantment can be,
'Cause it happened one ev'ning to me.

Chorus:
That certain night,
The night we met,
There was magic abroad in the air.
There were angels dining at the Ritz
And a nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square

I may be right, I may be wrong,
But I'm perfectly willing to swear
That when you turn'd and smiled at me,
A nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square

The moon that lingered over London town
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown
How could he know we two were so in love
The whole darn world seemed upside down

The streets of town were paved with stars
It was such a romantic affair
And as we kiss'd and said "good-night"
A nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square

How strange it was , How sweet and strange
There was never a dream to compare
With that hazy, crazy night we met
When a nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square

This heart of mine beat loud and fast
Like a merry-go-round in a fair
For we were dancing cheek to cheek
And a nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square

When dawn came stealing up all golden blue,
To interrupt our rendezvous.
I still remember how you smiled and said,
"Was that a dream or was it true?"

Our homeward step was just as light
As the tap-dancing feet of Astaire
And like an echo far away,
A nightingale sang in Berk'ley Square.

I know 'cause I was there,
That night in Berk'ley Square

Well, folks, I have spent most of the time trying to locate Julio Iglesias songs in English with no luck, so it's time for me to say goodnight.

This shall be my goodnight song.

Harbour Lights

I saw the harbour lights
They only told me we were parting
The same old harbour lights that once brought you to me
I watched the harbour lights
How could I help if tears were starting
Goodbye to tender nights beside the silv'ry sea

I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore

Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbour lights will steal your love from me

I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore

Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart is whisp'ring
Some other harbour lights will steal your love from me

From Letty with love

SIMPLE PLAN

"Crazy"

Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look, I see
Young girls dying to be on TV
They won't stop till they've reached their dreams

Diet pills, surgery
Photoshopped pictures in magazines
Telling them how they should be
It doesn't make sense to me

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something is wrong

I guess things are not how they used to be
There's no more normal families
Parents act like enemies
Making kids feel like it's World War III

No one cares, no one's there
I guess we're all just too damn busy
And money's our first priority
It doesn't make sense to me

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something is wrong

Is everybody going crazy?
Is everybody going crazy?

Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look I see
Rich guys driving big SUVs
While kids are starving in the streets

No one cares
No one likes to share
I guess life's unfair

Is everybody going crazy?
Is anybody gonna save me?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something, something is wrong

Is everybody going crazy?
Can anybody tell me what's going on?
Tell me what's going on?
If you open your eyes
You'll see that something is wrong

The Aire That I Breathe
by Julio Iglesias

Give me the world and I will it down
Can't think of anything I need
No cigarette's, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you

All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak
Sleep, silent angel, go to sleep

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe

Peace came upon me and it leaves me weak

Sleep, silent angel, go to sleep

Making love with you
Has left me peaceful and warm and tired
What more could I ask
There's nothing left to be desired

Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you
All I need is the air that I breathe
And to love you

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

edgar, those lyrics say a lot, buddy. It is a crazy time in which we live.

Hey, hbg. Thanks so much for the great song in English and the replica of Julio. I finally found the Spanish lyrics to "Yours", so I guess perseverance does pay.

(QUIEREME MUCHO) - Lyrics
[verse]:
THIS NIGHT HAS MUSIC, THE SWEETEST MUSIC,

IT ECHOES SOMETHING WITHIN MY HEART!

I HOLD YOU NEAR ME, OH DARLING, HEAR ME,

I HAVE A MESSAGE I MUST IMPART.

THE CLOAK OF EVENING IS WRAPPED AROUND US,

THERE IS A SPELLING IN ITS MYSTIC BLUE!

THIS WONDROUS EVENG, THE MOON HAS FOUND US,

IT HEARS ME OFFER MY ALL TO YOU:

[Chorus]:

YOURS TILL THE STARS LOSE THEIR GLORY!

YOURS TILL THE BIRDS FAIL TO SING!

YOURS TO THE END OF LIFE`S STORY,

THIS PLEDGE TO YOU, DEAR, I BRING!

YOURS IN THE GRAY OF DECEMBER

HERE OR ON FAR DISTANT SHORES!

I`VE NEVER LOVED ANYONE THE WAY I LOVE YOU!

HOW COULD I?

WHEN I WAS BORN TO BE JUST YOURS.

(Spanish Lyric)

[verse]:

QUIEREME MUCHO, DULCE AMOR MIO,

QUE AMANTE SIEMPRE TE ADORARE!

YO CONTUS BESOS, CONTUS CARICIAS,

MIS SUFRIMIENTOS ACALLARE.

[Chorus]:

CUANDO SE QUIERE DEVERAS!

COMO TO QUIERO YO A TI!

ES IMPOSIBLE ME CIELO,

TAN SEPARADOS VI VIR!

CUANDO SE QUIERE DEVERAS

COMO TO QUIERO YO A TI!

ES IMPOSIBLE MI CIELO TAN SEPARADOS VI VAR?

TAN SEPARDOS VI VIR.

Quote:
Hey!
It's wonderful to see you once again
to see your smile and hear you call my name
there is so much to say.

Hey!
It isn't accidental that we met
your love is something that I can't forget
so I wander your way.

Hey!
If one of us won't try to dry the tears
tomorrow is the world of yesteryears
let us live for today.

Hey!
Although we played a game of love and lost
I wouldn't change a single dream because
if you loose you must pay.

It's true
I've have so many others loves to share
but I will close my eyes and you'll be there
no matter where I go, you're ev'rywhere Er, Er...

If you
come back to me and see how much I care
I only want to live if you are there
to give your love to me.

Hey!
Don't let me spend another day alone
remember all the happiness we've known
lets relive yesterday.

Hey!
We've known a world of loneliness and pain
we'll never make the same mistakes again
may if only you'll stay.

It's true
I've have so many others loves to share
but I will close my eyes and you'll be there
no matter where I go, you're everywhere Er, Er...

If you
come back to me and see how much I care
I only want to live if you are there
to be with you I'd travel anywhere Er, Er

It's true...

Why, hamburger, those aren't wrinkles; they are character lines.

Thanks for another look at Julio, Canada.

Hmmm. What did boomer do with djjd?

Well, folks. I don't know where our hawkman is, but I do hope all is well.

Our Raggedy has an appointment today so we'll miss seeing her.

How about a look at a famous father and son since Sunday is father's day.

Back later with songs by both.

hbg, you are indeed a lovable and witty character. Razz

Well, folks, here's one by that Dylan kid.

Stardust Universe

In a world full of pretty things
You carry out only what you bring in
Square your shoulders
Lift your pack
And lay your feet back down on the track

This is the part where you may want to give in
And I will remind you that we both once said
We were born to stumble and to learn
In a stardust covered universe
We demand the impossible
And tomorrow is earned

Empty apartment, rumbling trains
Eastside village looking good for its age
An ounce of pleasure so quickly became
Another morning with a pound of pain

This is the part where you will say nothing's wrong
I will remind you that you will be strong
We were born to struggle and to yearn
In a stardust covered universe
Where you will find troubles
But you will not be the first

As you travel the white line, stripping the gears
Eyes on the dashboard, hands on the wheel
Running away like you do
You've got to slow your engines
When God is in pursuit

Under a streetlight I call your name
It's only darkness, it's not that late
Now stop your sleeping, pull the blinds
And pour your future in this cup of mine

This is the part where you will dig your heels in
And build a tower where your sadness is
You were born, and soon you will return
From a stardust covered universe
Where the end is certain
But it will not be rehearsed
