Hey, Raggedy. You made it a trio, I see. I did find out that Mark was the man who killed Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense. Can't recall Boogie Nights, however, nor could I remember that Hopalong's horse's name was Topper. Thanks, PA.
An inspired song, folks.
A sleepy lagoon, a tropical moon and two on an island,
A sleepy lagoon and two hearts in tune in some lullabyland,
The fireflies gleam, reflect in the stream, they sparkle and shimmer,
A star from on high, falls out of the sky, and slowly grows dimmer,
The leaves from the trees, all dance in the breeze, and float on the ripples,
Im lost in the spell, that nightingales tell of roses and dew,
The memory of, this moment of love, will haunt me forever,
A tropical moon, a sleepy lagoon, and you.
Stand still, oh heaven and earth and river, stand still, oh time in your endless flight.
If love can but command, the moon will stand , the sun wont wake,
The day wont break, and it will always be tonight.
The leaves from the trees, all dance in the breeze, and float on the ripples,
Im lost in the spell, that nightingales tell of roses and dew,
The memory of, this moment of love, will haunt me forever,
A tropical moon, a sleepy lagoon, and you

Hello Stranger
Barbara Lewis
[Written by Barbara Lewis]
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby)
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop)
Hello, stranger
(Ooh) It seems so good to see you back again
How long has it been
(Ooh, seems like a mighty long time)
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby, ooh)
It seems like a mighty long time
Oh-uh-oh, I my, my, my, my
I'm so glad
You stopped by to say "hello" to me
Remember that's the way it used to be
Ooh, it seems like a mighty long time
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby, ooh)
It seems like a mighty long time
(Mixture)
Lewis sings a series of
"oh-uh-oh's" on both sides of
"I'm so glad you're here again"
While backups do 7
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby)'s
Oh-ahh-uh-oh
If you're not gonna stay
(Ooh) Please don't tease me
Like you did before
Because I still love you so a-a-although
It seems like a mighty long time
Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby, ooh
It seems like a mighty long time
(Mixture)
Lewis does
"Oh-uh-oh, I my, my, my, my"
And "I'm so happy that you're here again"
And backups repeat
(Shoo-bop, shoo-bop, my baby) to end

edgar, I don't know your "stranger' song, but it inspired me to play this one which is even stranger. <smile>
Artist: Leon Russell and the Shelter People
Song: Stranger In A Strange Land
How many days has it been
Since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways
That I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry
When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
He shares a simple secret
With the wise man
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
How many miles will it take
To see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes
And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king
He's a stranger in a strange land
Tell me why
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
Well, I don't exactly know
What's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
Each other, not like brothers
Leaders take us far away from ecology
With mythology and astrology
Has got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other
It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race
Stop the money chase
Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
And that's a thing
Do you recognize the bells of truth
When you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen
To the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children
He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

You've Really Got A Hold On Me
The Miracles
I don't like you
But I love you
See that I'm always
thinking of you
Oh, oh, oh,
you treat me badly
I love you madly
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby
I don't want you,
but I need you
Don't want to kiss you
but I need you
Oh, oh, oh
you do me wrong now
my love is strong now
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby
I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me
I want to leave you
don't want to stay here
Don't want to spend
another day here
Oh, oh, oh, I want to split now
I just can't quit now
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby
I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me

Once more, listeners, inspired by edgar's song, I decided that this should be our poem of the day.
Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

I live inside my birdcage a hanging way up high
I like to swing upon my perch and sing my little song
But there's a cat that's after me and won't let me alone
I tawt I taw a puddy tat a creeping up on me
I did I taw a puddy tat as plain as he could be
S:I am that great big bad old cat Sylvester is my name
I only have one aim in life and that is very plain
I want to catch that little bird and eat him right away
But every time that I get close to him this is what he'll say
I tawt I taw a puddy tat a creeping up on me
You bet he saw a puddy tat that puddy tat was me
T:That puddy tat is very bad he sneaks up from behind
I don't think I would like it if I knew what's on his mind
I have a strong suspision that his plans for me aren't good
I am inclined to think that he would eat me if he could
INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE
S:I'd like to eat that Tweety Pie when he leaves his cage
But I cannot get close to him it throws me in a rage
You bet I'd eat that little bird if I could just get near
But everytime that I approach this is all I hear
T:I tawt I taw a puddy tat a creeping up on me
I did I taw a puddy tat as plain as he could be
And when I sing that little song my mistress knows he's back
She grabs a broom and brings it down upon Sylvester's back
So listen you bad puddy tat let's both be friends you see
My mistress will not chase you if you sing this song for me
Come on now like a good cat
S:Oh alright...sufferin' sucotash!
B:I tawt i taw a puddy tat a creeping up on me
I did I taw a puddy tat as plain as he could be

Heh, heh. Love the bird song, edgar. Many of those cartoon characters were funny.
Well, these animals aren't cartoons, but it does give us a connection, folks.
This is dedicated to my young friend who used to play it on guitar.
The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun
There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
------ organ solo ------
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

a fine song from "the world of flatt and scruggs :
Quote:
Artist: Wilbert Harrison Lyrics
Song: Kansas City
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.
I'll be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
I'm gonna be standing on the corner
On the corner of Twelfth Street and Vine
With my Kansas City baby
And a bottle of Kansas City wine.
Well I might take a train
I might take a plane, but if I have to walk
I'm gonna get there just the same
I'm going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.
I'm gonna pack my clothes
Leave at the break of dawn
I'm gonna pack my clothes
Everybody will be sleeping
Nobody will know where I've gone
Cause if I stay in town
I know I'm gonna die.
Gotta find a friendly city
And that's the reason why,
I'm going to Kansas City
Kansas City here I come
They got a crazy way of loving there
And I'm gonna get me some.

Wow! hbg. I didn't know Flat and Scruggs did that one. I sang that at a piano bar here, and that's the last time that I have sung in public.
Evidently, folks, they did this one as well, but so have lots of other people.
Played once by the Grateful Dead on 11 June 1969 at a concert billed as "Bobby Ace And The Cards From The Bottom Of The Deck." No tape exists, so these are the lyrics from the version recently recorded by Bob Weir with Dan Zanes
From the great Atlantic Ocean to the wide Pacific shore
From the green and flowery mountains to the south belt by the shore
She's mighty tall and handsome, she's known quite well by all
She's a modern combination called the Wabash Cannonball
Chorus
Listen to the jingle, the rumble and the roar
As she glides along the woodlands, over hills and by the shore
Hear the mighty rush of the engine, hear the lonesome hobo's call
Travelling through the jungles on the Wabash Cannonball
Oh the Eastern States are dandy, so the Western people say
From New York to Chicago, and Rock Island by the way
From the hills of Minnesota where the rippling waters fall
No chances to be taken on the Wabash Cannonball
[chorus]
I rode the IC Limited, also the Royal Blue
Across the Eastern counties on the Elkhorn number two
I rode these highball trains from coast to coast, and that's all
But I have found no equal to the Wabash Cannonball
[chorus]
Here's to Daddy Claxton, may his name forever be
Always be remembered in the courts of Tennessee
His earthly race is over now, the curtains round him fall
They're carrying him home to victory on the Wabash Cannonball
[chorus]
Travelling through the jungles on the Wabash Cannonball

Milwaukee Here I Come
John Prine with Melba Montgomery
I'm gonna get on that old turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm gonna leave this town 'til you decide
Which one you want the most them Opry stars or me
Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee
Milwaukee is where we were before we came here
Working in a brewery making the finest beer
You came to me on a payday night said let's go to Tennessee
So we drove to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry
I'm gonna get on that old turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm gonna leave this town 'til you decide
Which one you want the most those Opry stars or me
Milwaukee here I come from Nashville, Tennessee
We were watching TV Ernest Tubb was singing loud
I said that's the man for me I love him, there's no doubt
I'm leaving you and going now to find out where he's at
If I can't get him I'll settle for that bluegrass Lester Flatt.
I'm gonna get on that old turnpike and I'm gonna ride
I'm gonna leave this town 'til you decide
Which one you want the most
Me or Jerry Lee

(We're Not) The Jet Set
John Prine with Iris DeMent
By a fountain back in Rome I fell in love with you
In a small cafe in Athens You said you loved me too
And it was April in Paris when I first held you close to me
Rome, Georgia, Athens, Texas And Paris, Tennessee
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevro-let set
There's no Riviera
In Festus, Missouri
And you won't find Onassis
In Mullinville, Kansas
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevro-let set
But ain't we got love
No, We're not the jet set
We're the old Chevro-let set
Our steak and martinis
Is draft beer with weenies
Our Bach and Tchaikovsky
Is Haggard and Husky
No, we're not the jet set
We're the old Chevro-let set
But ain't we got love
No, We're not the jet set
We're the old Chevro-let set
The Prine and DeMent set
Ain't the flaming suzette set
Our Bach and Tchaikovsky
Is Haggard and Husky
We're the old Chevro-let set
But ain't we got love

In Spite of Ourselves
John Prine with Iris DeMent
She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my baby I'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go
He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go
In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.
He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a whacked out weirdo and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go
In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

dj, I always love what you play. You are a man of many talents. John Prine is one creative fellow, Canada.
Love, We're Not the Jet Set, and In Spite of Ourselves reminds me of Settin' the Woods on Fire by the original Hank.
How about this one, folks
The Jet Set
this is the time, now gimme that beat
feel how the rhythm grips your feet
kitty baby, take my hand
she's like a devil, heaven sent
i'm in her arms and she's in mine
maybe we make the film on time
sitting in the 15th row
oh baby, baby, i love you so
we are the jet set society
we are the jet set and that means liberty, liberty
the jet set society
we are the jet set set, we are the jet set set
society
we're on the run, we know where to go, we got the tickets for the midnight show
these nights are burning out so fast, hop on the beam, you won't be last
the russians seem to be that way, we love them like we love d. kaye
we need no money, we get it for free
we are the high-high-high society
we are the jet set, hop on the beam
shine on, society, shine on, liberty
shine on, luxury, shine on, society
streets are full of love and fear, this could be the final year
enrico's dead but still okay, we dance the streets, feeling well
if she's a liar, i'm her lover
if she's a priestess, i'm her cover
if she's a lady, i'm her man
if she's a man, i'll do what i can
lets go to the moon, lets go to the moon
dig that kind of liberty and lets go to the moon..
come and join the institution

i will never forget ...
Quote:
Hello muddah, hello faddah
Here I am at Camp Granada
Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining.
I went hiking with Joe Spivy
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.
Take me home, oh muddah, faddah
Take me home, I hate Granada
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear.
All the counselors hate the waiters
And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses.
How I don't want this should scare ya
But my bunkmate has malaria
You remember Jeffrey Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party.
Take me home...I promise I will not make noise
Or mess the house with other boys.
Oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day.
Dearest faddah, darling muddah,
How's my precious little bruddah
Let me come home, if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me.
Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing.
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
Playing baseball, gee that's better
Muddah, faddah kindly disregard this letter.

Chains of love have
Tied my heart to you
Chains of love have
Made me feel so blue
Well, now I'm your prisoner
Tell me what you gonna do
Are you gonna leave me
Are you gonna make me cry
Are you gonna leave me
Are you gonna make me cry
These chains
Are gonna haunt me
Until the day I die
Well, if you're gonna leave me
Please, won't you set me free
Well, if you're gonna leave me
Please, won't you set me free
I can't bear these
Chains that bind me
Unless you're here with me
Well, it's three o'clock
In the morning
The moon is shining bright
Yes, it's three o'clock
In the morning
The moon is shining bright
I just sit and wonder
Where can you be tonight

Well, all. It's time for me to say goodnight, but before I turn out the light, I would like to thank hbg for the Camp Granada song. One of my very favorites, Canada.
edgar, I truly appreciate the chain song, Texas. Yes, love is full of hard to break links, right?
From the pen of Walt, a goodnight reminder.
Love the earth and sun and animals,
Despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks,
Stand up for the stupid and crazy,
Devote your income and labor to others...
And your very flesh shall be a great poem.
Walt Whitman

the news is out - all over town
That youve been seen - a-runnin round
I know that I - should leave, but then
I just cant go - you win a- gain.
This heart of mine - could never see
What evrybod - y knew but me
Just trusting you - was my great sin
What can I do - you win a- gain.
Im sorry for - your victim now
cause soon his head - like mine will bow
Hell give his heart - but all in vain
And someday say - you win again.
You have no heart - you have no shame
You take true love - and give the blame
I guess that I - should not complain
I love you still - you win again.

I'll see you in my dreams
And I'll hold you in my dreams
Someone took you
Right out of my arms
Still I feel the
Thrill of your charms
Lips that once were mine
Tender eyes that shine
They will light my way tonight
I'll see you in my dreams
Oh, someone took you
Right out of my arms
Still I feel the
Thrill of your charms

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.
edgar, thank you for the night songs. They swim in our minds and touch our souls, Texas.
Poem for the day:
Song from the Ship
To sea, to sea! The calm is o'er;
The wanton water leaps in sport,
And rattles down the pebbly shore;
The dolphin wheels, the sea-cows snort,
And unseen Mermaids' pearly song
Comes bubbling up, the weeds among.
Fling broad the sail, dip deep the oar:
To sea, to sea! the calm is o'er.
To sea, to sea! our wide-winged bark
Shall billowy cleave its sunny way,
And with its shadow, fleet and dark,
Break the caved Tritons' azure day,
Like mighty eagle soaring light
O'er antelopes on Alpine height.
The anchor heaves, the ship swings free,
The sails swell full. To sea, to sea!
