Raggedy Aggie's list of birth's for today included
Helen Callaghan Candaele St. Aubin. Here is some more information on her. I so loved that movie.

Inspiration for the movie, A League of Their Own

Born: 13 March 1929 in Vancouver, British Columbia
Died: 8 December 1992

Helen Callaghan Candaele St. Aubin was a left-handed outfielder for the Fort Wayne Daisies, one of the teams in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She was batting champion in 1945, hitting .299, and was often called the "Ted Williams" of women's baseball.

After years of hearing his mother's stories, Kelly Candaele decided to make a documentary about her, her sister Marge, and the time they spent playing professional baseball. Penny Marshall saw the film on PBS and turned it into the movie, A League of Their Own.

Helen died of breast cancer at age sixty-three. In June of 1998, all sixty-four Canadian women who played in the league were inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Additional trivia:

Over 10% of the players in the All-American league were Canadian.

Panzade, I'll bet you're very tired, but when you have a chance to recover, please come back and tell us all about the concert. Sounds like you had a great time.

Hey, Lady Di. I saw a League of their Own, but have forgotten most of it.

Raggedy Aggie, it was a great movie. I felt wonderful watching it.

Letty, maybe "F" for French. "A" for Acadian? "C-" for Canada Dry? LOL

Well, Diane. It could be any of those, but I'm trying to reconcile it with all white keys; all black keys; And while I pull a Rodin, how about some honky tonk:

Hey, hey, good lookin',
Whatcha got cookin'?
How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?
Hey, sweet baby,
Don't you think maybe
We could find us a brand new recipe?
I got a hot-rod Ford and a two-dollar bill
And I know a spot right over the hill.
There's soda pop and the dancin's free,
So if you wanna have fun come along with me.
Hey, good lookin',
Whatcha got cookin'?
How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?

I'm free and ready,
So we can go steady.
How's about savin' all your time for me?
No more lookin',
I know I've been tooken [sic].
How's about keepin' steady company?

I'm gonna throw my date-book over the fence
And find me one for five or ten cents.
I'll keep it 'til it's covered with age
'Cause I'm writin' your name down on every page.
Hey, good lookin',
Whatcha got cookin'?
How's about cookin' somethin' up with me?

But Hank never wrote or sang anything prettier than:
"I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry"
or "I Can't Help it if I'm Still in Love with You."

Love On The Rocks Lyrics

Neil Diamond

Love on the rocks
Ain't no surprise
Pour me a drink
And I'll tell you some lies
Got nothing to lose
So you just sing the blues all the time

Gave you my heart
Gave you my soul
You left me alone here
With nothing to hold
Yesterday's gone
Now all I want is a smile

First, they say they want you
How they really need you
Suddenly you find you're out there
Walking in the storm
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You've got to leave, just get away
We all know the song

You need what you need
You can say what you want
Not much you can do
When the feeling is gone
May be blue skies above
But it's cold when you're love's on the rocks

First, they say they want you
How they really need you
Suddenly you find you're out there
Walking in the storm
When they know they have you
Then they really have you
Nothing you can do or say
You've got to leave, just get away
We all know the song

Love on the rocks
Ain't no surprise
Pour me a drink
And I'll tell you some lies
Yesterday's gone
And now all I want is a smile

Bobmythhawk, that is a sad song but, for some reason, I've always enjoyed it.

Letty, I'm on my way to Denver for almost a week, visiting family, so I'll say goodbye with a song in black and white, dedicated to your search for Panzade's riddle.

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord, why don't we?
We all know that people are the same where ever we go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive together alive.

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord why don't we?

Ebony, ivory living in perfect harmony
Ebony, ivory, ooh

We all know that people are the same where ever we go
There is good and bad in ev'ryone,
We learn to live, we learn to give
Each other what we need to survive together alive.

Ebony and ivory live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard, oh lord why don't we?

Ebony, ivory living in perfect harmony (repeat and fade)

Hi Diane:

Started feeling weird tonight. Those words popped into my head. Then I realized I felt lonely. Doesn't happen very often. I thought about going out singing but decided not to. Mixture of booze, women and feeling lonely could be lethal. So I opted for the wiser choice and stayed home. But there's a better day coming. Saturday my little Mia turns one year old. So I'll see her with the bonus of my lovely daughter Nina and Mia's sisters Amanda (6) and Kira(4). Oh and of course the less lovely Nina's husband Patty. Wouldn't be surprised if my ex is there too.

Diane, that was lovely. Never heard it nor Bob's song either.

Be careful, Lady Diane, and say Hi to Denver.

Bob, your family sounds delightful. I know what it is to be lonely as well. I think it's that time of night, perhaps.

I can't even think of anything to sing, listeners. Shall we listen to a little FM music?

the last radio station I worked at I had this song as my opening/closing theme music:

Written by roger mcguinn

The river flows
It flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes
That's where I want to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

All he wanted
Was to be free
And that's the way
It turned out to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

Flow river flow
Past the shaded tree
Go river, go
Go to the sea
Flow to the sea

The river flows
It flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes
That's where I want to be
Flow river flow
Let your waters wash down
Take me from this road
To some other town

Bob, good idea to stay in when you are in such a bittersweet mood. Even though my sons are 29 (on the ides (15th) of March Letty LOL) and 32, I still miss them terrible living here in the wilds of New Mexico--although I wouldn't live anywhere else. Little ones tug at heart strings like nothing else on earth and loneliness for someone of the opposite sex can be heartbreaking.

Letty, I loved it when FM radio made its entrance on the entertainment scene. Now I think FM has as many commercials than AM.

Hello Letty. Those little granddaughters of mine are so much fun. Little Mia is right on the cusp of talking . She can make word like sounds so she's almost there. When she laughs her whole body gets into it. Kira is a double of her grandmother, my ex, Solveig. Solveig was a head turner when I first met her and kira's going to break some hearts. Poor Paddy will have his hands full putting lumps on the heads of all the local guys. Amanda is a brain and pretty too. I sang Got a Whale of Tale to her and when I'd finished she repeated it word for word.

from great early 80's band joy division

Love Will Tear Us Apart

When routine bites hard, and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high, but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again --

Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side
Is my timing that flawed - our respect run so dry?
Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives
Love, love will tear us apart again --

You cry out in your sleep - all my failings expose
There's a taste in my mouth, as desperation takes hold
Just that something so good just can't function no more
When love, love will tear us apart again --

Bob, I miss holding children. I miss the smell of them and the open eyed wonder of them.

Well, listeners. As I said, it's that time of night. <smile>

For Bob and his brood:

Little curly hair in a high chair,
What?s your order for today?
Little curly hair in a high chair,
I?ll do anything you say.
When you?re near the room seems to brighten
The sun comes streaming through you?re eyes,
You?re the reason they still keep writin?,
All those tender lullabies.
Hm__ There you go!
Bangin? with your blocks,
Pullin? off your socks.
Hm__ There you go!
Tryin? to make your toes,
Touch your baby nose.
Heaven?s close to your chair and my chair,
when you smile the way you do.
Little curly hair in a high chair,
My day begins and ends with you.

the bands story is kind of a tear jerker, ian curtis the singer/songwriter for the band commited suicide at the age of twenty four, may 18th 1980, just as the bands was to embark on their first tour of the states. he returned to his home in macclesfield, persuaded his wife to stay the night at her parents' house, watched stroszek (a film by werner herzog), listened to iggy pop, then hanged himself. many reasons have been advanced for his suicide: depression caused by his epilepsy or by the drugs he was taking to control it, the break-up of his marriage, worries about the american tour, or a morbid desire to emulate those of his heroes who had died young.

part of the bands story is related in the very good brittish film, 24 hour party people
