to be compared to you edgar, is a compliment i'll gratefully accept
Ah, how dear, dj.
Hey, George. Here's your desert chant:
http://www.christdesert.org/noframes/chant/chant.html
I listened to what I could of it. Very solemn and truly moving.
we walk through the park down by the river
I kissed you underneath the linden tree
your eyes said you would love me forever
your mouth said "let's go home now, hurry please"
sometimes I still see your little child
that we never had running to you
he is blond and firm of limb, but when I call out to him
he smiles and disappears into the blue
I can taste your softly urgent kisses
hear your voice say "will you do everything?"
smell the rain that falls on pines and birches
and see the way your summer dress would cling
twenty years a couple busted phone calls
letters that I had nowhere to send
I'd have to laugh I'd have to cry, looking deep into your eyes
if I ever do see you again
I'd have to laugh I'd have to cry, looking deep into your eyes
if I ever do see you again
Oh, my, dys. That song is just tooooo sad.
Edgar, I used to see the Ice Man, Jerry Butler, pretty often on the streets of Chicago years ago when I was still living there. It was nothing to see him shopping in Marshall Field's or Bomwit Teller. Once I interrupted his shopping to shake his hand and tell him how much his music meant to me. He was very pleasant. Gracious. He's a politician there now, an alderman or councilman, or something.
Goonight, folks. See you here in the studios tomorrow.
I didn't know Jerry Butler's recent history. I just know how dissappointed I felt when the hits stopped coming.
Can't say why he stopped recording. Even after the Impressions split, he had a very successful solo career, "Only the Strong Survive" being one of his big hits. Perhaps it was the desire to go into politics, which is what he did.
His recording of Moon River was the last new one I heard.
The song"Almost Blue" was a counry cover?

Good morning, WA2K radio listeners.
It seems that our music buffs, edgar and eoe, had a great tete a tete about Jerry Butler last evening. He must be a fine performer. Thank you both for the info.
Panz, not quite certain what you mean, but I did find out that Chet Baker had a recording of that song.
It's really pouring the rain here in my corner of the sunshine state.
eoe, thanks for the info on those classics of the past. Tonight is the big one for the current stars in waiting.
Back later, with news, music, and other items of interest.

Anyway You Want Me
(Text & music by A. Schroeder och C. Owens)
I'll be a strong as a mountain,
Or weak as a willow tree,
Anyway you want me,
That's how I will be.
I'll be a tame as a baby,
Or wild as the raging sea,
Anyway you want me,
That's how I will be.
In your hand my heart is clay,
To take a mold as you may.
I'm what you make me, you've only to take me,
And in your arms I will stay.
I'll be a fool or a wise man,
My darling you hold the key,
Yes, anyway you want me,
That's how I will be,
I will be

Chemistry
Semisonic
I remember when I found out about chemistry
It was a long, long way from here
I was old enough to want it but younger than I wanted to be
Suddenly my mission was clear
So for awhile I conducted experiments
And I was amazed by the things I learned
From a fine fine girl with nothing but good intentions and a
Bad tendency to get burned
All about chemistry
Won't you show me everything you know
Ah wonder what you do to me
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh
Some time later I met a young graduate
When I had nobody to call my own
I told her I was looking for somebody to appreciate
And I just couldn't do it alone
So for awhile we conducted experiments
In an apartment by the River Road
And we found out that the two things we put together had a
Bad tendency to explode
All about chemistry
Won't you show me everything you've learned
I'll memorize everything you do to me so I can
Teach it when it comes my turn
Fine spring day, California waves
Sweet Pacific scenes through the
Windows of airplanes and hotel rooms
So when I find myself alone and unworthy
I think about all of the things I learned from the
Fine fine women with nothing but good intentions and a
Bad tendency to get burned
All about chemistry
Won't you show me everything you know
Ah wonder what you do to me
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh
All about chemistry
Won't you show me everything you've learned
I'll memorize everything you do to me so I can
Teach it when it comes my turn
It's all about chemistry
It's all about chemistry
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh
It's all about chemistry
It's all about chemistry
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, oh
Caught By The Fuzz
Supergrass
Caught by the fuzz,
Well I was, still on a buzz,
In the back of the van,
With my head in my hands,
Just like a bad dream,
I was, only fifteen,
If only my brother could be here now,
He'd get me out and sort me out alright,
I know I should have stayed at home tonight,
Locked in a cell,
Feeling un-well,
I talked to a man,
He said, It's better to tell,
'Who sold you the blow?'
'Well it was no-one I know.'
If only you'd tell us, we'd let you go,
We'll make it hard for you my son, so tell us what you know.
We'll make you wish you'd stayed at home tonight,
(Ooh____________ wah ooh____ wah ooh.)_________
Here comes my mum,
Well she, she knows what I've done,
'Just tell them the truth,
You know where it's from,
You've blackened our name,
Well you, you should be ashamed,
If only your father could see you now,
He'd break down, and he'd throw you out for sure.
I never should have let you out tonight.'
__(Tonight,) tonight, (tonight,) tonight, (tonight,) tonight,
(tonight,) tonight, (tonight.)
Movie Star
Cracker
Well the movie star, well she crashed her car.
But everyone said she was beautiful even without her head.
Everyone said she was dangerous.
Well the chief of police kept the crime off the streets.
But deep in his heart, we all knew he felt differently.
We all knew he was an anarchist.
Chorus: Well I - I'd like to devour you
But you - You'd prob'ly devour me.
For your golden wheat, for your oat bran head.
Deep in my heart
Girl you're a beautiful animal
I'll put a tag on your ear.
Well the movie star, well she crashed her car.
But everyone said she was beautiful even without her head.
Everyone said she was dangerous.
Well the chief of police kept the crime off the streets.
But deep in his heart we all knew he felt differently.
We all knew he was an anarchist.
Well I - I'd like to devour you
But you - You'd prob'ly devour me.
Repeat
Girl you're a beautiful animal.
(8 times)
Round Here
Counting Crows
Step out the front door like a ghost
into the fog where no one notices
the contrast of white on white.
And in between the moon and you
angels get a better view
of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.
Well, I walk in the air between the rain,
through myself and back again.
Where? I don't know.
Maria says she's dying.
Through the door I hear her crying.
Why? I don't know.
Round here we always stand up straight.
Round here something radiates.
Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand.
She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis.
And she walks along the edges where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus.
She parks her car outside of my house,
and takes her clothes off,
says she's close to understanding Jesus.
And she knows she's more that just a little misunderstood-
She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous.
Round here, we're carving out our names.
Round here, we all look the same.
Round here, we talk just like lions,
but we sacrifice like lambs.
Round here, she's slipping through my hands.
round here
Sleeping children better run like the wind
Out of the lightning dream.
Mama's little baby better get herself in
Out of the lightning.
She says, "It's only in my head."
She says, "Shhh....I know it's only in my head."
But the girl in the car in the parking lot
says: "Man, you should try to take a shot.
Can't you see my walls are crumbling?"
Then she looks up at the building,
says she's thinking of jumping.
She says she's tired of life;
she must be tired of something.
Round here, she's always on my mind.
Round here, hey man, we got lots of time.
Round here we're never sent to bed early,
and nobody makes us wait.
Round here we stay up very, very, very, very late.
I can't see nothin'.
Nothin'.
round here.
Oh, will you catch me if I'm fallin'?
will Catch me if I'm fallin'?
Will you catch me 'cause I'm fallin' down on you?
I said "I'm under the gun."
Around here.
"Aw man," I said "I'm under the gun."
Around here.
but I can't see nothin, nothin.
Roooound here.
Just A Few Things That I Ain't
The Beautiful South
When you called me a useless druggie
At least you got half of it right
When you called me a hopeless alcoholic
I'm only hopeless after nine at night
And when I said you came staggering home blind drunk
If I didn't you'd get terrible fright
And if this is the land of hope and glory
Where's the land of hope but not quite
I've been scruff bag, dirt bag, always someones binbag
But never been bono or sting
However I dressed never really impressed
So they never got to hear a damn thing
I've been bad man sad man certified mad
But never 007 or saint
Trendsetter go getter international jet setter
Are just a few things that I ain't
The time you told class I was a half wit
Was my very first 50 %
Previous best in any other test
Was either stolen copied or lent
And when you branded me and every single one of my mates
A waste of time and effort to teach
Why d'you give us sums if our only hope was bums
On someone else's deckchair and beach
I've been smart arse, mardy arse, on and off a lard arse
But never been a legend to god
New thing dumb thing even last year's thing
Headbang? - not even a nod!
I've been left-wing, secure-wing, lost stripes, gained winged
We've never caused a lady to faint
Wideboy, ladyboy, read it in the paper boy
A few things they said that I ain't
When popularity soared, hometown and abroad
I spent most of it trying to breathe in
Always ill at ease, too willing to please
An inferior life's bargain bin
When you come from a background of bargain bins
You're bound to fear it ends where it begins
So when nation adored we felt more of a fraud
And too phoney to celebrate wins
I've been scruffbag, dirtbag, always someones binbag
But never been Bono or Sting
However I dressed never really impressed
So they never got to hear a damn thing
I've been badman, sadman, certified mad
But never 007 or Saint
Trend-setter, go-getter, international jet-setter
Are just a few things that I ain't
Listeners, have you ever seen anyone more prolific with the songs than dj and edgar? Keep 'em coming, guys.
I was thinking today about the funny papers. What do you think was the longest running comic strip in history? and how many parodies have been written on the Colonel Bogey March from The Bridge on the River Kwai?
Just some random questions for all listening.
As a remember, the river Kwai bridge :
Longest running comic strip? Peanuts?
