In the sentence "We got directions from the girl talking on the phone," is "from the girl talking on the phone" a prepositional phrase with "the girl talking on the phone" a gerund phrase? Or is it a dependent clause?

@InfraBlue,
Hi Blue -- my guess is a dependent clause?

@Clubbeaux,
For it to be a dependent clause, "from the girl talking on the phone" would have to contain the subject of the sentence. Since the subject is "we," it is not a dependent clause.

@Clubbeaux,
"The girl talking on the phone," is not a gerund phrase because, in this sentence, "talking" is a present participle not a gerund.
