Analyzing pretest/posttest data

I know that a paired samples t-test is often the appropriate choice when analyzing pretest/posttest data (in which a test is given before and after a treatment). In my case, the test is a five-question multiple choice test given before and after material is explained to a class. Is a t-test still appropriate even with so few questions (and thus a limited range of scores)?
