Well, he definitely seems to like it in there.

If you want to satisfy him though, I think an explanation of the proper usage of semi-colons would do the trick; that is the one thing he has never been able to understand!

That's not correct usage, is it. Confused

That's how I would use a ; ... and Clary's explanation is succinct and correct (to me, anyway).

I use colons for two purposes. And semi-colons for just one. The LCD (lowest common denominator) is to show off how educated I am.

It's correct to use them when you could use a full stop (period, sorry) but the two parts of the sentence are so connected that it seems too large a break.

The colon is more tricky; theoretically it should be used when the two parts of the sentence mean the same or have the same grammatical form. For example: here is the example.
He should be here now: this is his usual arrival time.

That actually sort of makes sense to me. The semi-colon part, I mean. Ooh, I'm feeling a little bit satisfied...

Who told you that you were entitled to a real life? Aren't you supposed to be building a kiosk or something in Herald Square?

When I was a kid I thought there was a guy who owned a shop on Broadway who was called Harold Square.

Apparently I used to say "Our Father which art in Heaven, Harriet be thy name" - a feminist from an early age, obviously.

Oh, pull the other one Sturge, it's got bells on it!

If She was Hillary, it could be understood that, as a joke, She would create him, but impossible to believe She would marry him!

Dutch!

Can't say I'm totally swept off my feet by your new avatar -
for some reason it bugs me that it is going anti-clockwise (I really do not know why this should bother me!); and -
it looks something like a set of electric toothbrushes.

But hey, I'll get used to it... Rolling Eyes

Sorry about the windmill vanes going anti-clockwise Lezzles. Trying to find a way to make them turn the other way but not much success so far. Smile Any ideas how to do that?

Round
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel thats turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes of its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

thanks for the earworm kids

Thank you for that whiteviolet. Have researched several Dutch "Windmill" sites and they all agree a windmill should turn anti-clock-wise, has something to do with the way the mill-stones ground the corn.

I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to doubt that windmills are supposed to turn anti-clockwise! I was just indulging in a teensy-weensy example of being a spoiled brat. I know it does not faze The Flying Dutchman one little bit!

I understand - it DOES look wrong somehow. But it was interesting to find that the avatar is actually correct.

Lezzles I'm pleased that your sense of humour also has re-appeared, your recovery must be right on track. As far as our other friend is concerned, e-mails are being returned "address unknown"???
