I just heard that Ireland offers dual citizenshps, and it's apparently easy to attain. I did some research (See site here) and it looks like what I heard was true.

This is amazing to me! Having Irish blood (be it, my most notable Irish relative was a highway robber who ended up bieng decapitated...), I would love to take advantgage of this and visit Ireland, if not live their someday.

Does anyone else here have dual citizenships (preferably an American/Irish citizenship)? Would you mind explaining the Pros/Cons?
I never even thought something like this was possible, and I'd love some feedback.

Thanks

Your link doesn't work.

Two of my brothers have dual citizenship Canadian/Irish. Both brothers had to visit Ireland to get it though. The IRA blew up the church where the original family records were kept. Weird 'cause it was a catholic church.

Link should work now.

Was it difficult for them to get the dual citizenship?
Do they frequent Ireland a lot? If so, what do they like about it?
Did either of them ever decide to purchase land or live there?

I could ask a thousand quesitons, this has me pretty excited, I would love to hold a dual citizenship w/ Ireland.

I'm not sure how far you can go back to claim family ties. My mother is from Ireland, so in that sense it was easy. However, because the original records were blown to smithereens, they had to travel to old country to get the paper work started, signed, witnessed ect. I still have family there and we still have land. Both brothers are eligible for a Euro passport as well. I have been considering getting mine, for the sake of my kids but I can't afford the trip at the moment.

Ceili, sorry to dip in so late, esp. on Netfool's time, but one of my favorite trad. bands from a recent trip there (last July) was The Ceili Bandits! Did you know of your namesake band?

Oh, and Netfool, my Dad was able to get Bermuda/USA dual citizenship because his father was born there even though he wasn't. When I tried, alas, it dries up after one generation. Each country has its own rules about how far the connection has to be, and I guess it depends how many crazed democrats they want on their doorstep. ;-)

I have an Irish passport. To get it I had to prove that at least one parent was born in Ireland. The process was quick and straightforward. Unlike Celi's case and fortunately for me, the needed records were readily available.
