Rusty plug question

The silver part that you insert into the wall socket on my laptop adapter has gotten some rust on it. What is the solution for rust on metal, it looks unattractive.

Steel wool, (available at hardware stores).

SOS or Brillo pads, dry. (Used for cleaning pots).

I do have a Brillo pad. But wouldn't that cause scratches? Would it be ok?

Let me understand exactly what you're talking about. are you talking about the metal prongs that you insert into the electrical outlet?

Generally fine grade steel wool, (grade 00 or 000), will not usually scratch most surfaces, even painted ones, but it will get rust or corrosion off. Same for SOS or Brillo, which is fine grade steel wool with soap in it. If you use the soap pads, be sure to clean off the small amount of soap that rubs off with a dame rag or towel and then dry with a towel immediately.
