There are definitely many important inventions but which do you think is the most important one

@Michael Johnson,
Making a ton of topics in a row on a website. That one is awesome.

It's a tossup between toilet paper and charcoal briquettes.

@Michael Johnson,
The wheel - without it we would not have developed very far technically.

Paper and movable type. Without these everything had to be memorized.

@coluber2001,
Without a wheel the printing machine would not have worked.
Before paper things were memorized and later written on stone or wood.

What are the Vegas odds he/she/it will come back and actually participate in the threads he/she/it created?

@camlok,
Think of a plateau rather than an apex. You can't really talk of a single most important invention, because there are many that have been equally important to civilization. I think it would help to keep that in mind when answering this question. Still, it's a good post.

James Burks book, "The Day The Universe Changed" is a good book on the subject. It's about how inventions and discoveries changed the course of history.

@coluber2001,
languages evolved , and that allowed for specialization, and that allowed for technological developments independent of each other. All the rest is just score keeping

I do not think we invented electricity, but discovered it.

As applies to the question, I'm not sure there's much difference.
