Strange times, indeed!

Here I am supporting Channel 9 in its fight for freedom of speech!!!!!!

Is this weird or what?

Confused

It's scaring the crap out of me.

Edit: Hang on...I am just catching up with this story:

Channel 9 had its feed cut part way through the debate, because of the worm? That's what happened?

I thought they were just whingeing because the Libs didn't WANT the worm!

I saw bonzai and the mad monk going off about the worm.

Kinda funny, two grubs complaining about a worm.

What's your problem, MC Kruger?

Free speech, could it be?

I don't know why MC bothers.

Pretty disturbing that someone can pull a TV channel's feed like that msolga.

Yep, Deb, Channel 9 had it's coverage cut because they used the worm.

The National Press Club claims it was not as a result of the Libs' request. Hmmmm ....

Channel 9 had to take the rest of their coverage of the debate from Sky, as a result of being cut off. Channel 9 thinks this action was an infringement of the public's right to free speech and I agree.

I'm still awaiting something substantial from either party to comment on.

I think Howard is tired of it all. I can't say I blame him; and his cow-towing to Costello's blackmail attempt tells me he doesn't really care if he wins or loses; he's just going through the motions for the sake of appearances and party loyalty.

Oh I think he wants to win, Builder!
A lot of very important connections are depending on him for all sorts of reasons! There are things he still has to deliver.

By howards own admission during the debate he wont be handing over to costello unitl "late into the next term".

It certainly sounds like he wants to win.

I think he desperately wants to win, dadpad!

And as for the promised hand-over ... was it a core or non-core promise?

Come clean on nukes: Wilderness SocietyPosted 5 hours 53 minutes ago/ABC news online

http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200709/r173588_656350.jpg
Nuclear plans: Prime Minister John Howard (centre on bridge) looks into the reactor at Lucas Heights earlier this year (AAP Image: Dean Lewins)

The Wilderness Society is calling on the Federal Government to release the four 'work plans' it has had prepared on nuclear energy.

The Society's Imogen Zethoven says the Government is trying to hide its real stance on nuclear power until after the election, because the issue is deeply unpopular.

But she says four work plans prepared for the Government look at communications, regulation, research and development, and education and training for the nuclear sector in the future.

Ms Zethoven says the Government should come clean on its plans and abandon nuclear power.

"What we want to see is that the Prime Minister rules it out and says this not a technology that's desirable for Australia or anywhere in the world for that matter," she said.

"It's not the right solution to climate change, it's in fact the wrong answer to climate change and we need to be moving quickly into renewable and energy efficiency."

Today - the latest poll results:

Another 'depressing' poll for Coalition
By Alexandra Kirk/ABC news online

Despite its promises of a big tax cut to Australian workers and a concerted effort to damage the Opposition by playing up its union connections, the Coalition's fortunes have slipped in the latest opinion poll.

Taken just before Sunday night's leaders' debate, the latest Newspoll shows Labor has opened up a 16-point lead over the Coalition after preferences.

After two polls last week showed a move back towards the Coalition, the new sampling shows Labor stretching its lead.

Its primary vote is up three points to 51 per cent, while the Coalition is virtually unchanged on 38 per cent

And Labor's Kevin Rudd has widened his lead over John Howard as preferred prime minister.

It is not the sort of news the Government has been looking for, as it tries to buoy the spirits of Liberal and National Party MPs.

"Depressing" is how one Coalition MP sums up the latest snapshot of the Government's re-election prospects. ...<cont>

I missed the original debate, but thankfully The Australian has it on video.
Here's my take on it.

Body Language & Tone of Voice :

Howard appeared angry, irritable, and didn't want to be there. He appeared subdued and lifeless (when not angry).

Rudd appeared calm, at times sure of himself, and at times humble.

Content :

Howard focused on the past, repeating over and over what he believes he has achieved. He mentioned almost nothing about his policies for the future.

Rudd named many of his policies, and focused on the future.

Howard avoided virtually every question thrown at him.

Rudd answered virtually every question thrown at him.

Conclusion :

The PM appears stuck in the past, with Bribes being his major policy. There appears little thought left for the future, just enough for the election. He appears shifty, angry and evasive.

Rudd appears calm, in control, and to be focused on the future. He is calm and in control, and prepared to tackle the tough issues (well...I am only focusing on debate appearances...)

Spot on vikkor.
Rudd put in a much more convincing performance. He seemed to me much more hungry for the top job, whereas JH seemed downright angry & petulant about the requirement to be accountable to us riff-raff in any way.

Poor old JH! He can't win a trick at the moment.

What bad luck to have the David Hicks issue resurface during the election campaign! Do you suppose someone in the US military has it in for him?:
