New poll shows Labor support waning

Federal Opposition Leader Mark Latham faces even more criticism about his leadership today with a new poll showing support for Labor has slumped.

After weeks of bitter infighting, Mr Latham will address his last Caucus meeting for the year and today's Newspoll published in The Australian newspaper will further fuel speculation about the Labor leadership.

The survey shows the public blood-letting has had a major impact on Labor's primary vote, with support for the ALP plunging five points to 33 per cent over the last fortnight.

The Liberal and National parties have widened the gap by 14 points edging higher to 47 per cent.

After preferences the Coalition is on 55 per cent with Labor falling two points to 45 per cent.

As preferred prime minister, Mr Latham's popularity has also slipped two points to 25 per cent with support for John Howard increasing to 60 per cent.

So do I. It is unhealthy to have such a weak opposition party, no matter what political persuasion.

.. but I can't bring myself to call you "australia", though. I don't think any one of us would suggest that we're representing the views of the whole Australian nation, as your choice of name suggests.

Sorry, it was the first name I could think of when it asked for a name. I will be gone in a couple of days so you won't have to put up with me in any more lol

I think most of you are compassionate and good intentions. Why I have disagreed on some points of view is not because I admire your sentiments but I have travelled a lot and have a cynical view about some things. But hearing the opinions of some of the people on here, I will be a little bit more tolerant. Anyway, I am at the stage where I think "I can't really change anything so why not just go with the flow"
