If one of the sockets on the wall decides to not function,will it affect both sockets or just that one socket?

You mean the electrical or the USB ports? Because I can tell you for a fact that I have a two-socket outlet in my house - one works, the other does not. Can't tell you about USB though.

That depends, Kev. Sometimes the two come from different sources, in which case of course the oter'n stays on
