Do deep cleanings hurt??

They can - I found it was a dull ache but this was a good ten years ago so I hope techniques have improved, plus my memory might be off.

Maybe call the dentist's office and ask if you can take Tylenol before you get there. I'm suggesting Tylenol because both aspirin and ibuprofen can make you bleed a bit.

If you're talking about a root-planing, then they will probably numb your mouth.

They called it a scaling for periodontal treatment....like shots?!?! x_x

It's not root planing. I do know what you are talking about. They will give you a more intense dental cleaning than normal.
