Mini-series plan for 9/11 report
The report has become a surprise bestseller
Two TV channels are planning to turn the official inquiry into the 9/11 terrorist attacks into a mini-series.
ABC and NBC are looking into dramatising the circumstances leading up to and including the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.
The 567-page 9/11 Commission report into the attacks has gone on to sell more than one million copies.
NBC has recruited the producer behind the acclaimed war series Band of Brothers to work on the project.
'Seminal event'
Meanwhile, ABC said it has a similar project in the works, also using the report as source material.
Stephen McPherson, ABC entertainment president, said: "We feel an incredible responsibility with this material.
"If we can't do it at the highest level, then we won't do it."
NBC entertainment president Kevin Reilly said he saw its project as a "seminal event for television".
He said: "The fact that the 9/11 report is a bestseller is indicative of not only its importance but also the way in which the story of the events is laid out in a clean narrative fashion.
"That is what we expect to do with this mini-series."
Sounds interesting to me - if done well - what do you think????
My initial reaction is that I hate when TV people make shows that are based on tragic events. Kind of makes me picture vultures coming in to pick dead bodies clean. I wish they would just stick to what they do best. Idiotic sitcoms and reality shows that make people look like the morons they are. That's what I want to see on TV.
Maybe if HBO did it a la Tom Hanks' Band of Brothers and the space show(can't think of the name right off hand)...can't see national television doing the piece...
I would be interested if it shows the process behind putting together the report.
Part of me kind of wants to know some of the story - from individuals' point of view - the thing was too kind of big to really take in - like earthquakes that kill lots of people and such - it is kind of unimaginable, and somehow I want to be able to comprehend it.
If they include the WHOLE 9 minutes of the President engrossed in 'The Hungry Goat' whilst thousands of people die, I reckon it will be worth it.
Ach - there but for the grace of god go I.....
dlowan, if they did it as a documentary-type thing, maybe it would be worth something. But if I have to watch Rob Lowe frantically trying to tell a busy Martin Sheen, "We need to talk about this memo, sir", I will be vomiting in my Rice Krispies.
Ah - yes - I see your point.
And - things being what they are in telly land, I suspect your rice crispies are in for a nasty shock some fine morning.
Mebbe if the Beebs did it?
