Shower Leak

We have a shower leak and can't figure out where it's coming from. Recaulked and regrouted everything. The water seems to come from underneath the shower base, wandering underneath the tile floor and showing up in the surface through the tile grout. If we don't use the shower the area dries out so it's not a constant leak. Can someone please advise what may be happening? Thanks!!!!

It sounds like a crack in the shower pan, the bowl-like thing that's under the floor of the shower stall, but first check the seal or caulk around the drain itself. Sometimes enough water can seep between the metal shower drain and the floor to cause wetness.

The shower pan replacement is a major job, best done by a pro with a long term reputation for fixing things once.

We also sealed around the drain with silicone and it worked for about 2 days, then started leaking again. Will try a different sealer and if doesn't work will bring in an expert.
Thanks for your help Joe!

Does the drain ever back up and allow water to pool in the bottom of the shower?
