Modern Art or Toddler Art?

I just took a quiz "modern art or toddler art?" It was fun but it had me wondering. How do you tell? For example, one of these two paintings is done by a very famous artist and the other by a toddler. If there is no attribution whatsoever, can you be absolutely confident which is which? What are some of the revealing characteristics about these two?

@clare10022,
Well, the second is kind of theme less.

Just kidding. I would flunk that quiz every time.

I took this quiz https://www.buzzfeed.com/jenlewis/quiz-can-you-tell-the-difference-between-modern-art-and-art?utm_term=.jhPonNo8R#.xeZpXEpqd

and got 10 out of 11 right.

Funny thing, the one I got wrong was the first picture on this thread.

@chai2,
That's impressive! What were your criteria? Do you have art background?

@clare10022,
No art background.

Don't really like modern art.

Looked at them with the thought "would a toddler be able make strokes or shapes like that?"

Don't know anything about kids either BTW.

But, if it didn't look like a 3 year old or younger could physically do it, then it had to be an adult.

Don't be impressed, it wasn't hard.

@clare10022,
It's really hard to say. While the first painting give a feeling of colorful, but I feel very messy.

@farmerman,
I went back and looked at the quiz. You're right farmer, I think #3 is actually really good. Of all of them, that's the one I could see owning. It's got a dream like, soothing quality.

@clare10022,
What is good art? I think you paint in your heart and the painting is art. Maybe someone else thinks it is not. But it is good art in your eyes. That's enough.

@clare10022,
That is an interesting thing. I think the first painting is done by a famous artist.

I got the first right, but only scored 5 out of 11. I have no affinity for this type of "art."
