do you have a studio space? or do you work at home?

do you have a space of your own or have to use the kitchen or other room?

what would you prefer to have if funds were available?

I had a studio space for a couple of years in an old Victorian school - high ceilings. large rooms and NO heating! in the end I decided it was unusable when i needed it - and in the summer I was working plein air and didn't need it.

I've been working at home since but it isn't so easy to cope with larger canvasses here and i am at a stage where i really want to work on a series of larger canvasses.

With a group of friends I'm looking at a potential new studio venue on the top floor of a factory - with heating! It is big enough for about 10 of us, which would be a nice sized group.

We'd hold open studios maybe 3 times a year and invite friends/buyers/gallery owners etc

It may not come off as it is down to whether we can afford it or not, negotiations are ongoing.

I really like this venue as it is only a couple of minutes walk from home!

for: heated, friendly manager/staff who said they will help any time with moving stuff, 24 hour access, lifts and goods lifts, ability to hold open studios there, group of like minded people doing very different work and the feedback/interaction of this, no distractions

against: no sink in the room - but we could maybe apply for a set up fund from the lottery for stuff like this (there are sinks in the shared toilets but artists are a messy lot and we couldn't really clean our brushes etc there), no partitions between our potential spaces - so funding application as above or expense. cost

(we would need chipboard screens around each space to hang work on)

tell me where and how do you all work???

I share the second bedroom of my apartment with my fiance' and his computers. I guess it is a studio/computer lab. I spend most of my time propped up against the couch in my living room, however, because I don't have a chair for my drawing table.

I have my own office space and work from home but on a computer. Gave my drawing table away some years ago. Still have another one in the basement, holding hubby's spare computer parts and my scanner, I think.
I've thought about renting office space, just to get out of the house, but I love being at home. I'm rarely bored.
