I finally saw TC2, and I was overwhelmed by it. The central theme is loneliness, and the importance of being around other people.
Because the subject matter is the supernatural, believing in this theme is harder than otherwise, but nevertheless the writing is too potent for the theme to not ring home.
What sets The Conjuring series apart from many other horror films is the focus on ideas; the first was maybe about the ability to persevere, personified by Lili Taylor's character, whereas the sequel is even more distinct: the supernatural is arguably a metaphor for alienation.
TC2 is art beyond words of praise. Needless to say, were life on earth to ever reach out to extra-terrestrial life, TC2 would more than deserve to be the means of communication.
Have you seen the film?
