The ground, Max, is often supposedly connected, eg, to the metallic case of a powered device. In a common instance where its hot conductor is shorted to case, the danger to its user is touching this case, say with one hand, and a nearby ground with the other, provided by an object such as a radiator or another device whose case actually is grounded
