Ladies/Mom's --- have any good icing recipes?

I want to make some monogrammed cookies (sugar cookie with thin layer of icing followed by our initials) for my bridesmaids.

I've never done this.
Would like to practice before the big date.

Figured my best bet would be to use a homemade icing that's thin and just experiment with putting color in it.

any recipes? suggestions? ideas?

easy decorating techniques? first timer here.

Monogramed cookies
Hi,

Here is some help. First visit this site for info on Royal icing. http://www.baking911.com/decorating_cookies101.htm

Then find a font you want to use and print out the monogram as you want it to look and in the size you intend to use. Make lots of these, they are your practice sheets.

Make a batch of the icing and using a pastry bag with a very small tip, practice writing the monogram on the paper right over the printed one. Keep doing this until you can do it without "following the lines".

Now you are ready to go. Bake your cookies and have fun! Good Luck!

Wow, that sounds easy! Very Happy

(then again, lots of things do but turn out crappy esp. when it comes to me & decorating)

I will take a look at the recipe when I get back from taking the furbaby to the vet (time for a dental cleaning).
