Cooker Hood Wiring

Hi all. Apologies for a newbie style question. In my kitchen there is a switch above the oven that used to have a cooker hood wired into it. However when I went to buy a new cooker hood, it comes with a plug on it. Could I cut the plug off and wire it in? I'm not particularly worried about its warranty. If I'm not able to do this l, how hard is it to change a switch socket to a normal plug socket? Thank you in advance.

You can wire the live, neutral and earth to the appropriate terminals in the existing switch box. Turn the power off first.
