Why do people enjoy this show ?

Anyone care to enlighten me as i might be converted if you have a reasonable argument although i much prefer a show like 24.

I love the CSI shows and I don't need a reasonable arguement.

Just because you don't like them doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't.

Watch what you want!

Well, it is one of the best examples of HD broadcasting, and the graphics are cool, if gory. The biggest complaint I have about these (now three) shows is that they overexplain everything and make the viewer feel like they're being talked down to.

CSI is enjoyed by some (me, for example) because they love forensic science and find the whole concept incredibly interesting. While sometimes, the shows become a little soap-opera-y (later seasons especially) I still think they do a pretty good job of portraying realistic forensic criminology. Procedure wise and what not.

But then again, I also watch shows like HBO's "Autopsy" so I tend to look at things somewhat differently than a lot of people.

My thoughts exactly Kristie. I'm very curious about forensic science and I find the shows educational.

I hate to break it to you but most of the "forensic science" stuff on the shows are not real. But it is an entertaining show to watch. Although I can't stand the Miami one.

Actually, a lot of the "forensic stuff" on those shows is real. Ballistics research, blood spatter patterns, most of the equipment they use...what parts of the show do you say are not real?

I suppose it isn't "false," more like the truth is stretched. Here is a link for an interview with the guy who does a lot of technical consulting:

I guess I also have to add that anyone who believes everything that is on tv (or thinks they understand something because they watch a prime time tv program) is the problem in this situation.

Those of us who have actually studied this (somewhat), understand that yes, DNA takes a hell of a lot longer than a few hours and that real CI's don't do much more than collect evidence. But how interesting would this show be if everyone just did their one job?

I've always wanted to go into forensic pathology but as luck would have it, I chickened out in college and refused to take the natural science classes...out of all the crap I'd have to take in grad and medical school, I didn't want to take undergrad natural science. Rolling Eyes

I read some where that since the show came out the "forensic science majors" sky rocketed. It has peaked a lot of interest all over.

Of course the show is drama and is for entertainment, but I think it's still interesting and I enjoy watching it.

Why do people not like the Miami one? It is usually much more entertaining than the original. I can't stand that guy in the original (Grissom), because he's such an obvious left winger (probably off screen as well). He hates guns but of course he's allowed to carry one. What a hypocrite.

Plus, CSI Miami has Emily Proctor...

Caruso rocks in his role as Horatio. If you don't like him because he "bugs" you, then he's doing his job (acting).

Ever watch Jim Carrey in "The Cable Guy"? I hate Jim Carrey but in this role he actually frightened me.

His "job" is not to bug me. His job is to enterain me, which he does an ok job at.

I don't doubt that. It is facinating!
Unfortunatly for me, by the time I would finish my schooling now, I'd be too old to do any field work and that is where I'd like to start. Not to mention, some day I'd like to start a family and med school ain't cheap!

Well Kristie, I here Grissom isn't coming back after this season. Maybe you could take his job.

I'm not a forensic scientist but I play one on tv.

I can't stand Caruso either. I liked him on NYPD Blue but ever since then he acts exactly the same no matter what role he is playing. I think the Miami spin-off tries to hard to be like the original show...it seems forces.

Yeah, that whole hearing thing they got going on the show....set up for an exit. Sad.

And I can't act so I don't think that I would do well in his place

Anyone who likes the actor who plays Grissom should check out a couple of eighties movies.

To Live and Die in L.A. featuring one of the best car chase sequences ever committed to film and directed by William Friedkin ( Exorcist and French Connection fame )

Manhunter, the prequel to Silence of the Lambs and much better than the film Red Dragon ( both are based on the same book but Hopkins overacts in Red Dragon ) a Scots guy plays Hannibal Lector in Manhunter and is very impressive, his name is Brian Cox and he has been in countless films, you might recognise him from such diverse films as The Ring or Rob Roy or The Long Kiss Goodnight etc etc, his resume is impressive.

William L Petersen who plays Grissom is a good friend to Willem Dafoe and actually got Willem into acting when he suggested him for the part of the bad guy in To Live and Die in L.A. of course he also got Platoon the very same year.
