I don't know for sure. I do know, however, that the law does not penalize people for their legitimate prejudgment financial planning. Wealthier people will most often liquidate their non-exempt assets and convert them to exempt assets.

A long time ago, I heard a news report concerning O.J.'s exempt pension benefits. Although I don't remember the exact amount that he receives each month, I believe it was an extremely large amount of money.
