Hi. I bought a house about a year ago and there was a front loader washer/dryer unit that had a ton of mold growth inside. I have replaced the washer and dryer but I am still smelling a strong mold odor in that area and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what could be causing it. The weird thing is that I didn't smell it until about 6 months ago. I don't see any mold on the wall behind it so just trying to figure this out. Any ideas would be appreciated.
@nicpnj,
Did you check the floor under and around the washer? Previous leaks may have seeped underneath floorboards.
Check the outlet drain pipe (where the water from the machine flows away to an outside drain), as this could be partially blocked with nasty smelling gunk that has built up over the years.
@nicpnj,
Do you still have a front-loading washer?
@Lordyaswas,
Yes I checked the floor and even ripped the linoleum up but I will check the outlet drain pipe. Thanks for the suggestion.
@ehBeth,
No I specifically didn't buy one again to avoid this issue.
@nicpnj,
Is there insulation behind the walls that could have gotten wet along the way?
