When I send an e-mail from my Gmail account in Windows 8, how do I control line spacing?

I draft the e-mail in MS word without difficulty, but when I cut-and-paste it to Gmail, the line spacing changes in inconsistent ways.

Why don't you draft it directly in Gmail? Or draft in Notepad and paste from there? (This is what I do at work to have control over spacing, etc.)
