So I applied for a job that makes you correct these sentences...but I never heard back so I thought I must have made a mistake. But now they are hiring again and if I AM making a mistake - will someone please tell me? These are the original sentences:

1) Everyone except Joe and he joined the social group. 2) 13 boys went to camp: thats less than was expected. 3) Our garden that has the roses needs landscaping. 4) They praised the work which showed potential

My response:

Everyone except himself and Joe joined the social group. Thirteen boys went to camp; that's less than was expected. Our garden, that has the roses, needs landscaping. They praised the work that showed potential.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

@rfinch,
You have my sympathy - questions are pretty punk for a start.

1. I would have said: "Joe and he were the only ones who joined the ..
2. ... which was less than expected
3. Our rose garden needs to be landscaped
4. They praised the work because it showed potential

Never use the present tense - that's less (that was less ...) - apostrophe indicates " that is".
