The best Star Wars show I saw this year was the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars double-episode. Seriously. The best. By far.

For what it's worth, Team Negative 1 has released their first scan of a 35MM print of the original 1977 Star Wars (Han shot first and all that).

I don't know if I'll have it all downloaded before my computer dies or not. But if I make it, I'll report back how it compares to the works from Harmy and Team Blu.

I'm a happy geek tonight. All downloaded. Haven't watched it yet on my big TV, but here are some comparison shots:

Team Blu (based on data extracted from the 2006 "original version" DVDs, which were sourced from the old LaserDisk masters):

Team Negative1 (based on high resolution scans of original 35MM theatrical films):

Harmy (ARTICLE) (based on the Blu Rays, with most -- but not all -- "new" scenes replaced by the best-available clip of an original version):

On this one Harmy is clearly the best, with Team Negative1 second, and Team Blu coming in last.

Team Blu:

Team Negative1:

Harmy (the apparent greater clarity in this image is bad -- the noise reduction algorithm used in making the Blu Rays reduced smoke and mist throughout all the movies):

On this one the best is a tie between Team Negative1 and Team Blu, with Harmy coming last.

Team Blu:

Team Negative1:

Harmy:

On this one Harmy is best again, with Team Blu coming in second, and Team Negative1 coming last.

There will likely be a new version from Harmy coming sometime soon, as this new offering from Team Negative1 might give him better versions of the scenes that he replaces.

@maxdancona,
I managed to stay till the end of the movie, but only because the theater serves food and drinks in a recliner.

@oralloy,
The scan of the 35mm print of original Star Wars has caught the attention of some reporters:

@tsarstepan,
So? Did you find the open ended nature of Force Awakens to be disturbing? Detrimental to the movie and franchise?

Han.

We all saw him "die", yes...?

Stabbed with a light saber. Still alive...

Fall off the catwalk. Still living...

We see him falling into a deep bottomless pit. Not exactly flailing arms and legs or screaming "AHHHhhhhhh.." on the way down, but maybe not dead yet...

Who might be down there to save him before he really does die? A really powerful force-ghost, maybe?

Remember that Luke also fell after his manicure. Something or someone there to catch Han, maybe?

HF doesn't have to be acrobatic to be welcomed back into a script. And he doesn't need to be a force-ghost, either.

Far too many loose ends left, for him to just leave like that...

Anyone know what Ford himself says about a possible role in a future episode?

@Seizan,
Harrison Ford is 73 years old. Not even a spry 73 year old. He's pulling off (probably barely) one more Indiana Jones movie. I think he's done with action movies after the next Indiana Jones movie. I really don't think he's coming back for Episode VIII.

I think you're too dependent of wishful thinking to assume that Han Solo is still alive. I think one of the reasons why he was paid the highest of the cast was because he won't be returning to the franchise. He's being retroactively compensated for help make the first trilogy so popular (as well as his future missing out on the rest of this present day trilogy).

@tsarstepan,
Also, Leia felt him die. He's dead, Jim.

Maybe best we can hope for is a CGI Force-Ghost with tons of royalties paid to Ford, and who might supply a dubbed-in voice.

And you're right, I don't really want to see him leave. Only 2 more episodes to go, then come the Attack of the Spin-Offs...!

@Seizan,
First off, Han wasn't a Jedi so there will be no Force Ghost. Second they are not waiting until after the Ep's are filmed, they are releasing them between the Ep movies. This coming Xmas we will be seeing Rogue One: A Star Wars story. Between Ep 8&9 we will have a Han Solo stand alone movie and the last one is either going to be a Yoda or Boba Fett movie after the release of Ep 9.

@Baldimo,
I think the Han Solo stand-alone will feature a young Han Solo. Reality sucks -- Ford is probably not going to do any more action films after the final Indiana Jones coming up. Do you figure the Jones character will be killed off, too?

In response to whether someone might save Solo when he fell off the catwalk, my 5-y/o grandnephew said "Batman could do it..."

@Seizan,
That is one smart grandnephew you have there, Batman would have saved him indeed. Han Solo and Batman being my 2 favorite people in the Geekverse. The Solo solo movie will be an origin story of sorts I'm sure. Same for either the Yoda or Boba Fett movies. Looking at IMDB, it shows that Harrison Ford is also doing another Blade Runner movie which is set to be released next year, that could be good or bad, we will have to wait and see.

I don't even want to hazard a guess on the Jones movie. Maybe it will be a hand off to someone, anyone but Shia Labeouf... I hate that guy and he can't act very well.
