Being full of one's own opinions has little to do with intellect. Everyone has met a stupid person who hates "snotty" intellectuals but always thinks they are right.
"Anti-intellectualism" is curious. To dislike intelligence is goofy and self-defeating. I guess it could be attributed to jealousy, insecurity and other things...
blatham has said on more than one occasion that there is an actual American phenomena against intellectualism. I kid back and forth about it, as I've done here.
I think the guy who started the thread did so in good humor.
It was funny to me.
It's what some people do with their so-called intellect that I sometimes find fault with. Attempting to ridicule, manage and disenfranchise others is among the behavior I dislike.
Here I was, masking fury at Craven's smarty pants insult, ignorant of the fact he thought my earlier anti-intellectual comment {which was an inside joke} was serious. Of course, being a conservative, I'd completely forgotten my teasing edit, and thought Craven was a looney. It took me thirty minutes to discover that I was, in fact the looney.
Someone better stop me. This edit button thing is getting out of hand.
