That's incorrect.
I literally just heard on radio (NPR) that is NOT true.
According to Wikipedia:
"The Constitution does not require that the Speaker be an elected House Representative, though all Speakers have been an elected Member of Congress"

The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

I can't imagine taking this job... it is probably the worst job in America right now. No matter what the next Speaker does, he will be attacked and hated by more than half of his or her colleagues and the public.

Anyway I am holding out for the next Supreme Court associate justice position. At least that job comes with tenure and I can wear a cool black robe.
