A: Tell Sue I found her phone.
B: ____________ her, I bet she has already brought a new one.

Options
A. To know
B. Knowing
C. Having known
D. To have known


This answer is B and I chose C and am still not convinced.

Please explain it to me!!!!

B is correct. Native speakers say "Knowing him/her" to mean "According to what I know about his/her habits/tendencies..."

Ex:
A: Where's Tom?
B: Knowing him, he's at the gym.

(B knows that Tom usually exercises at the gym at this time of day.)

@FBM,
...and presumably native speakers feel more comfortable with present tense (knowing) being contiguous with 'tell her' and 'I bet', rather than the introduction of a past participle (known).

Just speculating on the contextual dynamics of the exchange ! Smile

That's what my intuition and experience tell me, yeah. Verb tense agreement issue, maybe.

I assume that "brought" should be "bought."
