You're right.

Perhaps a coyote and a wolf? I dunno. I'm not an expert on this topic, so it'd probably be best if I stopped conjecturing.

We've got a mystery creature down here too. Only this one is so ugly it scares the children. I don't think they'll ever figure out what the hell this thing is. I just know that the alerts tell you not to feed it or assume you are safe near it. Even if you are in your car, you are advised to run for your very life. I pushed it down the page so those of you with weak stomachs have the option to skip over this pic without risking the nausea it may cause. Seriously, this one is not for the weak.

MY first thought was that it looks like a shaved african wild dog or hyena. Maybe a heyena-pitbull?

If they get a wildlife biologist involved, the mystery might be solved pretty quick. They could rig a camera up near some cat food and get a much better look, or maybe even catch the poor thing.

Expect to see more strange looking critters as more gene splicing experiments escape the laboratories. Neil

I thougtht that also at first because of the "snout". But I think the pictures are just bad.

Also, in the film, you can see that the animal has very dog-like movements and reactions. Also, the local pets are not nervous about it, which means that it must have a familiar smell. It's probably someone's pet dog that they shaved. Or unfortunatley, some poor mangy fox/dog/coyote.

If ya shaved one of these, it would look very close.

Exactly. If they get serious about this they could figure it out. But they (local authorities) don't sound very serious yet because it isn't a threat to anything. They may get more interested if media coverage continues to draw attention (like us) Smile

If you're implying that this might be an escaped gene modified animal, I think that is extremely unlikely. Not only do we lack the genetic technology for this at the moment, but if was an escaped critter, then I think someone would be a lot more anxious to get it back.

Rover with a bad haircut is still higher on my list of possibilities.

Just a side note: The X-Files episode featuring a discussion about El Chupacabra and shot in the style of Cops was one of the best.
