Wherefore art thou, Romeo?

@dlowan,
I'd always interpreted it as "What makes you Romeo?"

But that doesn't add anything to the purpose of the thread.

Good point.

@George,
Not really, Romeo was a known Montague, Juliet was aware of him before she met him. When she "fell in love" with the mysterious stranger she was dismayed to find out he was the Romeo, the Montague.

So when she said Wherefore art though Romeo she meant Why are you the Romeo (that my cousin Tybalt is always moaning about.)

I've got a book titled, "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare.

Apparently it is a play that has been given book form.

Many plays are.

@Frank Apisa,
It's still a play, something meant to be watched, not read like a novel. Normally when people refer to the book they're talking about novels.

@neologist,
The latest on Romeo Fabulini, aka Droship is that he doesn't care why he can't log in, he's going to find a nice comfortable chriistian forum without any nasty atheists, slammists, baal worshippers, or other nasties.

Translation:
He knows why he's been kicked off and won't try to come back because we're on to him.

I thought he was the perfect foil and will be missed. . . Sorta. Mr. Green But I'd still like to know what he could have done. I thought him harmless.

@neologist,
Why not seek out those who sincerely give a **** about that douche bag gamer.
s far as Romeo, I recall the 9th grade version we had to read and execute in class (We did execute it real good)

Quote:

O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

Mr Faubus taught ENglish and we spent many a dy trying to understand archaic languge forms.

"Who are you really Romeo"
Cmon leave your ole man's tight ass family,
Or I guess Ill have to leave mine if you wanna see me naked"

@farmerman,
During my two thirds of a post grad teaching degree prac teaching and when I tutored in English one of my joys was helping people to understand Elizabethan and Jacobean English.

It's so lovely that it's worth being fluent in and it was such fun to see understanding dawn.

I was assigned to teach Donne to a class. The teacher said she didn't think they'd be able to get it.

However, I was close enough to adolescent girlhood to know of what I spake.....I read them all the sexy Donne first and they picked it up in no time.

@dlowan,
I became interested in Chaucer through The Miller's Tale.
It was intellectual curiosity, of course.

@dlowan,
I can only recall "The Flea" because, at the time, I was doing some community stuff and helping at a "halfway house" for the homeless. I was always quoting this more as an example of the state of unhygienic life till fairly recently.

Why were there fleas in their bed? ANSWER: Because They didnt spend much time in housecleaning or showering. Ill bet he could come up with something really hot about sex IN the shower
