@neologist,
I didn't know there were people who views the Holy Spirit as a force and not a being until I got on the net. Now as far as Him being a force, I will strongly disagree.
The Holy Spirit will never work through our feelings, or push us in any way. He is only there to quote the verses from our conscience that we have put in there as a belief.
The Holy Spirit will only quote the verses (bring to remembrance) what Jesus has already said TO YOU.
John 14:26
26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

the Holy Spirit is not allowed to speak to us any other way. He can only take from what Jesus has given us.
John 16:13-14
13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

This Holy Spirit is the only guarantee of salvation in the whole bible.
2 Cor 5:5
5 Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

The wisdom the Holy Spirit gives us is gentle and willing to yield to our wishes. He will never push us or force us to accept it.
James 3:17
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
