Originally, I named my son Yahya, and with that certain spelling. However, he's five now, and his name gets mispronounced ( ya ya, ya ha) so often that I am going to change the spelling of it to something more understandable for everyone else. How would YOU spell the name if I want it to sound YuH-ya, with emphasis on h.
@Yahiya,
Yahiya, had you considered simply Yahiya
I don't think there's any way to write the "h" sound other than using the letter "h."
Or, does it represent a voiceless uvular fricative as represented orthographically in Hebrew "ח" (het), Spanish "j" or German "ch?"
If so, you might write it as "Yuchya" or "Yukhya."
The problem with people thinking the name is pronounced "ya-ya" or "ya-ha" instead of "yuh-ya" is because you're spelling the name with an "a" instead of a "u" in the first sylable.
So, I looked up the name and found that it's Arabic.
I saw it phoneticized as "YAH-hee-uh."
An approximate transliteration might be "Yaheea" or with a "u" sound, "Yuheea."
@InfraBlue,
Thanks
In view of all replies I have following options
Yaheea
Yaahea
Yaahia
Yuhya
Yuhia
Yuhea.
I'm going to ask my friends to say pronounce these and then pick the closest.
@Yahiya,
Again Yahiya, had you considered simply Yahiya
