I am sure that's how the God of the bible would react, eBrown, but I'm with Patiodog on that one!
renounce me in a heartbeat, although I do wonder how they would live with having done so.
I can say 'I would die for this' and 'I would die for that'. But I probably won't do that. When the time is there, I will chicken out, probably. Till that time, I would say I would die for my beliefs and the persons who are nearest to me (my parents, my sister, my relatives, my friends etc.)
I would die for my beliefs-- political, sociological, philosophical; as long as they were substantial. (Whereas I would die for democracy, etc, I certainly would not about Anne Bronte's books' being better than Charlotte.) I would rather have my life end with dignity than have it continue in degradation, or betrayal of myself.
My son, daughter, granddaughters and grandson and wife.
When you asked "would you die for your country" you were kidding right!

I agree, it does sound pretty crazy.
It really isn't, Kicky, when you think about it.
Under the right circumstances, I would sacrifice myself for the USA.
delete, thinking going on.
I'd never die just for a nation. There could be circumstances for which I would be willing to die and in which my nation was involved (it happened for my grandparents, anyway) -- but just for the nation? I'm not a big one for symbolism, especially when the stakes are so dear to me.
That's the way I feel Patiodog. I wonder how soldiers do it? That's probably one of the reasons that young guys make better recruits. When you're young you really don't have much of a fear of death. It takes a little time for the survival instinct to mature in a person.
