That's what it seemed. How disappointing for them. I don't like penalty shot victories. I thought ties in the final were going to be decided by extra play.
What's the fallout from the result going to be, do you think Argentina get rid of Bielsa? Could you explain the player's brawl at the end? I saw a little of it.
I thought Argentina put Brazil totally of their game in the first half. They closed them down fast and didn't give them room to manuever. In the second half Brazil seemed to rediscover their mojo.
In all, I'd say Argentina deserved the win, but...
I, too, hate shootouts. When Julio Cesar guessed right on that first shot, it seemed to take the wind out of Argentina's sails.
Oddly, the streets of Stoneham were not filled with celebrating Brazilians.
I also thought there was going to be overtime. With this "organizers" you never know.
Argentina proposed the game, Brazil disposed. Adriano, again was the difference. "If he saw a piglet in the area, he'd shoot it on goal", said Menotti, who was commenting for Mexican TV.
Declarations after the game:
Mario Lobo, "Zagalo", three times Brazilian world champion as a player, one as a coach: "We had to win. Brazil can never afford to lose".
"Killy" Gonzalez, Argentinian player: "We were ten seconds short of being champions. These are the times when one thinks 'Why the hell did I become a footballer'? "
Argentina hasn't won any tournament in the past 13 years.
It was a nice Copa and thread. Thank you all.

No, Argentina won the "Copa America" in 1993, viz 11 years.
Daaaah!
It was against Mexico, so you can understand why I forgot.

So we are face to face in the Olympic semifinal, MOU.
