freezer restoration revisited

Hi,

I cleaned the mildew out of a bench freezer I was given, but it turns out there's some real rust, too, where the white plastic coating of the interior has disappeared. Is there anything I can do about the missing plastic coating? Do I need to do anything about it? Is the freezer safe to use in this state or is there some danger of contamination of the food inside the freezer?

Thanks for any help,

George

It sounds like it might not be able to make a good seal, so things might not stay cold. Have you tried making ice in it to see how long that takes and how long the ice lasts (and if it can make ice at all)?
